Argentine Firm QUO Lands Official 2026 World Cup License

March 1, 2026 James Parker - Business Editor Business

Rosario-based firm QUO has secured a licensing agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to produce and distribute official merchandise for the 2026 World Cup, a significant step for the company and a first for a business in the city of Rosario specializing in bazaar, and merchandising. The deal positions QUO as the sole local provider of officially licensed products in its category, potentially opening doors to expanded corporate partnerships and campaigns tied to the major sporting event.

Founded almost 15 years ago by Germán and Nicolás, QUO began as a design studio before evolving into a producer of bazaar goods. Nicolás later withdrew from the business, leaving Germán Schnaider and his partner, Elisa Rodríguez, at the helm. The AFA license represents a pivotal moment for the company, according to Schnaider, who spoke with Punto biz. “The license allows us to commercialize certain products through specific channels, under an article-by-article approval scheme,” he explained. The initial product portfolio will focus on children’s items – cans, lunchboxes, bottles, cups – alongside the company’s core strengths in mates, accessories, and personal items.

Navigating AFA’s Licensing Requirements

Obtaining the AFA license wasn’t automatic. Schnaider emphasized that the AFA has stringent quality requirements and conducts thorough background checks to protect its brand. “There were meetings and validations until the contract was finalized,” he said. The opportunity arose when a vacancy opened within the AFA’s licensing scheme, and QUO was invited to apply. This process underscores the AFA’s commitment to maintaining brand integrity and ensuring the quality of officially licensed merchandise, a crucial consideration as the 2026 World Cup approaches.

The authenticity offered by official licensing is a key differentiator in a market often flooded with unofficial products. “Official articles carry a hologram and approval, and that difference is visible in the quality and the buyer’s perception,” Schnaider noted. This is particularly important for corporate clients seeking branded merchandise for campaigns and events, where quality and legitimacy are paramount. QUO is already in discussions with advertising agencies and large companies to capitalize on this demand, offering a way for brands to associate themselves with the World Cup without navigating the complex licensing process themselves.

Two Channels, Expanding Reach

QUO currently operates through two distinct business units. The traditional wholesale channel serves bookstores, gift shops, hardware stores, supermarkets, and large retailers. The second, and rapidly expanding, channel focuses on corporate merchandising and marketing actions using officially licensed products. This dual approach allows QUO to reach a broad customer base although similarly catering to the specific needs of businesses looking to leverage the World Cup’s popularity. Punto Biz reports that QUO is positioning itself as a facilitator, handling the licensing complexities for companies wanting to create branded merchandise around the tournament.

In March, QUO will launch its first direct-to-consumer channel with an official store on Mercado Libre, Argentina’s leading e-commerce platform. While distribution will continue to rely on existing distributors and retailers, the Mercado Libre store will provide a platform to showcase the full official catalog and exert greater control over brand presentation. This move signals a strategic shift towards a more integrated sales approach, combining wholesale partnerships with direct consumer engagement.

Beyond the World Cup: Expansion Plans

The immediate horizon for QUO is centered around the 2026 World Cup, anticipating peak sales during the tournament and using it as a springboard for new commercial alliances. Although, the company’s ambitions extend beyond a single event. QUO is already in talks with Rosario Central and Newell’s Old Boys, two prominent football clubs in Rosario, to secure licensing agreements. Infobae reported on February 27, 2026, that Nicolás Russo, president of Lanús, celebrated with Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, president of the AFA, after Lanús won the Recopa Sudamericana, highlighting the AFA’s active engagement with clubs and potential licensing partners.

Looking further ahead, QUO aims to add licenses from nationally recognized clubs like River Plate and Boca Juniors, as well as teams from Córdoba and other regions of Argentina. This expansion strategy is designed to maintain the company’s competitive advantage and continue its growth trajectory within its established distribution channels. The company’s success hinges on its ability to leverage the AFA license, build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and adapt to the evolving demands of the sports merchandise market.

The licensing agreement with AFA represents a significant opportunity for QUO to elevate its brand and expand its market reach. By focusing on quality, authenticity, and strategic partnerships, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the 2026 World Cup and establish itself as a leading provider of officially licensed merchandise in Argentina. The move to a direct-to-consumer channel via Mercado Libre further strengthens its position, allowing for greater control over brand messaging and direct engagement with customers. Nicolas Germán, of Pine Tree Equity Partners, may be watching this space for potential investment opportunities, given his firm’s focus on expanding businesses in the B2B services sector.
