BGS Extends Ryanair Fuel Supply Deal to 6 European Airports

BGS Extends Ryanair Fuel Supply Deal to 6 European Airports

March 12, 2026 James Parker - Business Editor Business

Baltic Ground Services (BGS), a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, will continue supplying aviation fuel to Ryanair at six European airports, extending a partnership that began in 2016. The renewed agreements, covering Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, and Ostrava, underscore BGS’s role as a key fuel provider for one of Europe’s largest low-cost carriers.

Expanding Footprint in Key Markets

The continuation of this relationship, initially reported by LRT.lt, builds on BGS’s established presence in the Baltic and Central European regions. The fuel supply will continue at Vilnius and Palanga airports in Lithuania, and Ostrava International Airport in the Czech Republic, with a fresh addition of Kaunas International Airport in Lithuania, according to a BGS press release. This expansion reflects Ryanair’s ongoing operations and growth within these markets.

Ryanair, boasting a fleet of 612 aircraft, is the largest airline group in Europe. The airline has operated flights to Kaunas since 2004 and established a base there in 2006. The inclusion of Kaunas in the BGS fueling agreement strengthens operational support for Ryanair at a strategically important location.

A Nine-Year Partnership Built on Reliability

BGS has been a consistent partner to Ryanair for over nine years, providing fueling services that meet the airline’s stringent standards. Vitalis Dudys, BGS Group Head of Commerce, emphasized the importance of the relationship, stating that the renewed agreement “reflects the trust Ryanair places in our team” and “reaffirms our ability to deliver reliable, efficient, and safe fuel supply services at multiple locations.” Vertas.com reports that BGS supports Ryanair’s high-frequency operations across the region.

Steven Fitzgerald, Head of Sustainability at Ryanair, echoed this sentiment, noting that BGS has “consistently met our highest standards and expectations, providing exceptional fuelling services.” This long-term collaboration highlights the value Ryanair places on consistent and dependable fuel supply, a critical component of airline operations.

Avia Solutions Group and BGS: A Broader Perspective

BGS operates as part of Avia Solutions Group (ASG), a larger aviation conglomerate controlled by Gediminas Žimelis. ASG, with a fleet of 145 aircraft, provides a range of aviation services including aircraft leasing with crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI). LRT.lt details that BGS operates across ten airports, positioning it as a significant player in the European ground handling and fuel supply market.

The Fuel Supply Chain: Costs and Considerations

Aviation fuel represents a substantial operating cost for airlines, typically accounting for 20-30% of total expenses. Securing reliable fuel supply agreements at competitive prices is therefore crucial for maintaining profitability. While the specific financial terms of the BGS-Ryanair agreement were not disclosed, the continuation of the partnership suggests a mutually beneficial arrangement. Fluctuations in global oil prices directly impact aviation fuel costs, creating a constant need for airlines to manage this expense effectively.

The logistical complexities of aviation fuel supply also contribute to its cost. Fuel must be transported to airports, stored safely, and delivered to aircraft efficiently. BGS’s expertise in ground handling and fuel services is essential for streamlining this process and minimizing disruptions.

Implications for the Baltic Region

The continued partnership between BGS and Ryanair has positive implications for the economies of the Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Ryanair’s presence at airports in these countries supports tourism, business travel, and job creation. A reliable fuel supply is essential for maintaining Ryanair’s flight schedules and ensuring connectivity to other European destinations.

BGS’s operations contribute to the local economies through employment and tax revenue. The company’s investment in infrastructure and personnel supports the growth of the aviation sector in the region.

What’s Next: Contract Duration and Potential Expansion

The renewed agreements between BGS and Ryanair are set to run for one year, with the contracts for Tallinn and Riga beginning on January 1, 2026, and those for Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, and Ostrava continuing from April 1, 2026. The long-term viability of the partnership will depend on continued operational efficiency, competitive pricing, and Ryanair’s future network expansion plans.

BGS will likely continue to explore opportunities to expand its fuel supply services to other airlines and airports in the region. The company’s focus on safety, reliability, and customer service positions it well for future growth in the competitive aviation services market. Further announcements regarding potential contract extensions or new partnerships are anticipated as Ryanair continues to develop its European network.
