Doosan Enerbility Secures 0M+ Gas Turbine Deal with US Big Tech & Data Centers

Doosan Enerbility Secures $770M+ Gas Turbine Deal with US Big Tech & Data Centers

March 6, 2026 James Parker - Business Editor Business

Doosan Enerbility, a South Korean power equipment manufacturer, has secured a contract to supply seven 380MW gas turbines to an unnamed U.S. Firm. The deal, announced on March 6, 2026, expands the company’s footprint in the North American market and signals growing demand for gas turbine technology, particularly to support energy-intensive operations like data centers. This latest agreement brings Doosan Enerbility’s total gas turbine orders in the U.S. To 12 units.

Expanding U.S. Presence

The turbines and generators will be delivered sequentially, starting in May 2029, to a data center operated by the U.S. Company. While the specific financial terms of the contract remain confidential, industry sources, as reported by the Yonhap News Agency, estimate the deal to be worth around 1 trillion Korean won (approximately $730 million USD). Doosan Enerbility declined to confirm the exact value or the identity of the customer, citing business confidentiality.

Yet, reports suggest the customer is xAI, the artificial intelligence startup founded by Elon Musk. Musk himself confirmed the purchase in a post on X (formerly Twitter) following a report by semiconductor analysis firm SemiAnalysis. The Hankyung notes this increased demand is linked to the substantial power requirements of AI operations and data centers.

Technology and Competitive Advantages

Doosan Enerbility’s success in the U.S. Market is attributed to several factors, including the proven performance of its 380MW gas turbines, rapid delivery times, and the support provided by its U.S.-based subsidiary, Doosan Turbomachinery Services (DTS), located in Houston, Texas. The company achieved domestic production of large gas turbines in 2019 and has since completed over 17,000 hours of testing to validate their reliability.

The turbines themselves represent a significant technological achievement for Doosan Enerbility. The company has now secured a total of 23 gas turbine orders globally, demonstrating increasing confidence in its technology. The Energy Daily highlights the importance of DTS’s maintenance capabilities in securing these contracts, offering localized support to U.S. Clients.

Impact on the Energy Sector and Data Center Demand

The growing demand for gas turbines from data centers reflects a broader trend of increasing energy consumption driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Data centers require substantial and reliable power sources to operate efficiently, and gas turbines offer a flexible and relatively quick-to-deploy solution. This contrasts with the longer lead times and permitting challenges associated with renewable energy projects or nuclear power plants.

However, the reliance on natural gas also raises concerns about greenhouse gas emissions and the long-term sustainability of this approach. While gas turbines are generally cleaner than coal-fired power plants, they still contribute to carbon emissions. The increasing focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors may set pressure on data center operators to explore more sustainable energy sources in the future.

Financial Implications for Doosan Enerbility

This contract represents a significant win for Doosan Enerbility, bolstering its order backlog and reinforcing its position as a global player in the gas turbine market. The company has been actively seeking to diversify its revenue streams and reduce its reliance on traditional power generation projects. The expansion into the data center market provides a new avenue for growth and helps to mitigate risks associated with fluctuations in the broader energy sector.

While the exact financial impact of the deal is not fully disclosed, the estimated 1 trillion won value suggests a substantial contribution to Doosan Enerbility’s revenue over the delivery period. The company’s stock price did not experience a significant jump immediately following the announcement, suggesting investors had already anticipated positive developments. However, sustained growth in the U.S. Market could positively influence the company’s valuation in the long term.

What’s Next for Doosan Enerbility

Doosan Enerbility will now focus on fulfilling the contract, ensuring timely delivery of the turbines and providing ongoing maintenance and support to its U.S. Customer. The company is also expected to continue pursuing new opportunities in the North American market, leveraging its technological expertise and established service network.

Further developments to watch include: potential announcements regarding additional contracts with xAI or other data center operators; updates on the performance of the delivered turbines; and any changes in the regulatory landscape surrounding gas-fired power generation in the U.S. The company’s ability to navigate these challenges will be crucial to its continued success in the evolving energy market. Doosan Enerbility’s Son Seung-woo, Power Services BG Head, stated the company will “actively respond to increasing domestic and foreign demand” with competitive gas turbines, according to News1.
