Ola Electric Launches ‘Ola Insiders’ Program for 10 Lakh+ Riders | Upgrades & Benefits

Ola Electric Launches ‘Ola Insiders’ Program for 10 Lakh+ Riders | Upgrades & Benefits

March 1, 2026 James Parker - Business Editor Business

Ola Electric, the Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, launched ‘Ola Insiders’ on Sunday, a customer loyalty program designed to foster a stronger community among its existing base of over one million riders. The program offers a range of benefits centered around vehicle upgrades, add-on purchases and referral incentives, signaling a shift towards building long-term customer relationships beyond the initial sale.

The launch comes as Ola Electric continues to expand its product portfolio and navigate a competitive EV market. The company currently offers a range of Gen 3 S1 scooters and Roadster X motorcycles, and the ‘Ola Insiders’ program is directly tied to encouraging upgrades to these newer models. Customers participating in the program can receive benefits of up to ₹50,000 (approximately $600 USD based on current exchange rates) towards upgrading to the latest Gen 3 S1 portfolio or the Roadster motorcycles, including variants featuring the 4680 Bharat Cell.

Expanding the Ola Ecosystem

Beyond upgrades, the program incentivizes existing customers to expand their ownership within the Ola ecosystem. Customers adding a second Ola vehicle under the same registered name are eligible for benefits up to ₹20,000 (roughly $240 USD). This strategy aims to increase household penetration and brand loyalty, potentially turning individual customers into multi-vehicle Ola families. The company spokesperson stated the program is designed to “support seamless vehicle upgrades, enables multi-Ola households, and makes it easier for our community to bring more people into electric mobility.”

Referral bonuses are also a key component of ‘Ola Insiders’. Existing customers can earn up to ₹5,000 (approximately $60 USD) in Ola credits for each successful referral, although the new customer being referred receives a ₹1,000 (around $12 USD) cashback. This leverages word-of-mouth marketing and incentivizes existing users to actively promote the brand to their networks.

Gen 3 Platform and Market Positioning

The timing of the ‘Ola Insiders’ launch is closely linked to the rollout of Ola Electric’s Gen 3 platform. Introduced in January 2025, the Gen 3 scooters – priced between ₹79,999 and ₹1,69,999 (approximately $960 – $2040 USD) – feature improvements in performance, efficiency, and safety. ET Auto reports the Gen 3 platform incorporates a mid-drive motor and chain drive across the portfolio, resulting in a 20% increase in peak power and a 20% range increase compared to the previous generation. An extended battery warranty, covering up to 8 years or 125,000 km, is available for an additional ₹14,999 (approximately $180 USD).

Ola Electric’s move to incentivize upgrades and referrals comes as the Indian EV market becomes increasingly competitive. Companies like Ather Energy, TVS Motor Company, and Bajaj Auto are all vying for market share in the rapidly growing electric scooter segment. The ‘Ola Insiders’ program can be seen as a strategic effort to differentiate Ola Electric through customer loyalty and community building.

Financial Implications and Growth Strategy

While the direct financial impact of the ‘Ola Insiders’ program isn’t immediately quantifiable, it aligns with Ola Electric’s broader growth strategy. The company is focused on increasing sales volume and establishing a strong brand presence in the Indian EV market. The program’s upgrade incentives could drive revenue from higher-priced models, while the referral bonuses aim to lower customer acquisition costs. InvestyWise notes the program extends benefits to those considering the 4680 Bharat Cell variants, suggesting a focus on promoting the company’s battery technology advancements.

Hero MotoCorp, a key competitor, reported a 44% year-on-year dispatch growth in February 2026, shipping 558,216 units. This demonstrates the overall growth potential within the Indian two-wheeler market, and Ola Electric will be looking to capitalize on this momentum through initiatives like ‘Ola Insiders’.

Warranty and Long-Term Ownership Costs

The availability of extended battery warranties – up to 8 years or 125,000 km for ₹14,999 – addresses a key concern for potential EV buyers: battery life and replacement costs. This extended warranty option provides peace of mind and reduces the perceived risk associated with EV ownership. The standard warranty on the Gen 3 scooters covers both the scooter and battery for 3 years or 40,000 km.

What’s Next for Ola Electric

Ola Electric has also announced the upcoming release of MoveOS 5, a software update designed to enhance the functionality and user experience of its scooters. The company continues sales of its Generation 2 scooters at discounted prices, offering a wider range of options for consumers. The development and eventual launch of the Roadster motorcycle series represent a significant expansion into a new segment of the two-wheeler market. The company’s long-term success will depend on its ability to execute these plans effectively and maintain its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving Indian EV landscape. Ola Electric’s announcement on YouTube highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and its vision for the future of electric mobility.
