50 Cent’s Instagram Trolling & Why He Deletes Posts: ‘I’m the Algorithm’

50 Cent’s Instagram Trolling & Why He Deletes Posts: ‘I’m the Algorithm’

If trolling your rivals on Instagram were an Olympic sport, 50 Cent would be a perennial gold medalist. The rapper, born Curtis Jackson III, has built a reputation for publicly calling out adversaries, dissecting their vulnerabilities with pointed commentary. But almost as quickly as these digital takedowns appear, they vanish – scrubbed from his feed. Now, after months of speculation, 50 Cent has finally explained his disappearing act: he simply doesn’t seek the subjects of his ire cluttering his page.

“If I put up a post and take it down is because I don’t want your ugly ass face on my page,” he stated in a recent Instagram post, accompanying a clip from his upcoming collaboration with Leon Thomas, “No One Told Us,” for the STARZ series Power: Origins. The explanation, delivered with characteristic bluntness, offers a glimpse into the mindset behind his often-controversial online behavior.

The Algorithm and AI Take Center Stage

But the deletion strategy isn’t just about aesthetics, according to 50 Cent. He’s similarly positioning himself as a disruptor of the very platforms he uses. “I’m the algorithm PUNK!” he declared, suggesting a deliberate attempt to game – or even defy – the mechanics of social media. This sentiment was amplified by a series of posts warning about “The ALGORITHM” and its potential to impact visibility.

Recently, 50 Cent has been experimenting with artificial intelligence to create provocative content. He debuted an AI-generated video mashing up his collaboration with Max B, “No More Tricks, No More Tries,” featuring digitally altered images of rivals Jim Jones, Maino, Fabolous, and Dave East. The post on X sparked immediate conversation, showcasing a new avenue for his trolling tactics.

Further leaning into the AI trend, 50 Cent posted a video on Friday morning (March 13) depicting himself as Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, battling adversaries including an Iron Man stand-in representing T.I. In a spoof of Avengers: Endgame. The caption, “Everybody dies one day, THE ALGORITHM coming soon!” hints at a larger project or strategy utilizing AI. Fan reaction was largely positive, with comments celebrating his continued willingness to stir the pot. One user noted, “Beefing with 50 is good business. They are all turning each other up for real,” even as another speculated that “THE ALGORITHM” might be the title of a new album.

A History of Digital Dissension

This isn’t a new phenomenon for the G-Unit founder. From his early career, 50 Cent has been known for his lyrical attacks and public feuds. His 1999 track “How to Rob” famously targeted a wide range of celebrities, including Bobby Brown, Master P, and Will Smith. More recently, he’s been vocal in his criticism of Sean “Diddy” Combs and T.I., often sharing pointed posts before subsequently removing them. Billboard has documented many of these instances, highlighting a pattern of calculated provocation followed by strategic deletion.

In another Instagram post from Thursday, 50 Cent asserted, “I am the algorithm anyone who chooses to go against the grain will suffer.” This statement suggests a belief that he can manipulate or circumvent the rules of social media to his advantage.

Business as Usual?

While the motivations behind the deletions are now clearer – a simple aversion to having his rivals’ faces on his page, coupled with a desire to control the narrative and potentially exploit the algorithms – the strategy itself continues to generate attention and engagement. 50 Cent’s willingness to engage in public feuds, even if fleetingly documented, keeps him in the cultural conversation.

As he stated in a recent post, business is good. The increased visibility undoubtedly benefits his various ventures, including his television projects like the Power universe, his music releases, and his entrepreneurial endeavors. The upcoming Power: Origins series, featuring the song “No One Told Us,” is slated to premiere on STARZ, and the buzz generated by his online antics will likely contribute to its viewership.

Looking ahead, 50 Cent’s continued experimentation with AI and his ongoing engagement with social media suggest that his trolling tactics are likely to evolve. Whether he’ll continue to delete posts as quickly as he creates them remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: 50 Cent will continue to find ways to stay relevant and keep his name in the headlines.
