Artist Buys House in Søreide, Norway – News

Artist Buys House in Søreide, Norway – News

March 12, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

A home purchase in Bergen is making waves, though not for the price tag alone. Erik Alnæs Greve-Isdahl, a Norwegian musician known for his perform with the band Kaizers Orchestra, and his wife, Therese Sønstabø, have recently acquired a substantial property on Paradis, according to Bergensavisen. The sprawling estate, located at Torpevikvegen 4, 6, and 8, sold for 23.7 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $2.2 million USD as of March 12, 2026).

From Maritime Business to Family Home

The property’s history is layered. The seller, Fenomenal AS, led by Frode Bjørn Forland, explained to Fanaposten that his mother initially purchased the estate in the early 1980s. Over the decades, it transitioned from a private residence to include commercial space, functioning as offices for a shipping company. Forland detailed how the property was reconfigured over time, eventually housing three separate living units, office space, and substantial storage areas. The estate also boasts a significant stretch of shoreline along Nordåsvannet lake. Nettavisen notes the sale places the property among the most expensive private residences sold in Bergen this year.

The main house itself is a considerable 975 square meters (over 10,400 square feet) and sits on a nearly 5500 square meter (over 1.3 acre) lot. Built in 1943, the property clearly offers both space and a prime location. Forland indicated that while the sale price might not seem exceptionally high given the size and location, significant investment had been made into the property over the past 40 years.

Kaizers Orchestra and a Return to Norway

For Greve-Isdahl, the purchase represents a return to a more settled life after years of touring and recording with Kaizers Orchestra. The band, known for their theatrical live performances and blend of rock, punk, and European folk music, achieved significant success in Norway and across Europe. Formed in 2001, Kaizers Orchestra announced an indefinite hiatus in 2013, playing a farewell concert that drew massive crowds.

Still, the story didn’t conclude there. In February 2023, Kaizers Orchestra surprised fans with the announcement of a reunion tour, dubbed “Kontroll på Kontinentet” (Control of the Continent). The tour, which spanned throughout 2024, was a resounding success, selling out venues across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. The band’s unique stage presence and devoted fanbase were key to the tour’s popularity. Bergens Tidende has been covering local property sales, including those in the Fana district where the estate is located.

What the Purchase Signals

While Greve-Isdahl has been characteristically tight-lipped about future plans for the property, confirming only that he and Sønstabø intend to reside there, the scale of the estate suggests potential for both family life and continued creative endeavors. The presence of existing separate living units and office space could facilitate studio space or guest accommodations. The property’s history as a blend of residential and commercial space offers flexibility for the recent owners.

The purchase also reflects a broader trend of high-profile individuals investing in property in the Bergen area. The region’s natural beauty, combined with its growing cultural scene, makes it an attractive location for those seeking a balance between privacy and access to amenities. The estate’s waterfront location on Nordåsvannet is particularly desirable, offering recreational opportunities and scenic views.

The Bergen Property Market

The sale of the Torpevikvegen estate comes amidst a dynamic period for the Bergen property market. While national economic conditions can influence real estate trends, Bergen has maintained a relatively stable market, particularly for high-end properties in desirable locations. The demand for spacious homes with waterfront access continues to drive prices in areas like Paradis and Søreide.

Real estate agent Hugo Førde of DNB Eiendom, who handled the sale, indicated to Bergensavisen that the intention is to continue the property’s mixed-employ function, with both residential and rental components. This suggests a pragmatic approach to managing the estate and potentially generating income from the existing infrastructure.

Looking Ahead: Creative Space and Family Life

For Erik Alnæs Greve-Isdahl and Therese Sønstabø, the acquisition of this substantial property marks a new chapter. While details regarding their specific plans remain undisclosed, the estate’s size, location, and history suggest a blend of family life, creative pursuits, and potential for continued investment. The property’s transformation from a maritime business hub to a family home will be a fascinating evolution to watch, particularly given Greve-Isdahl’s artistic background.

The band’s official website (https://kaizers.no/) currently lists no further tour dates beyond the completed “Kontroll på Kontinentet” run, but the band remains active on social media, hinting at future projects. Whether the new estate will serve as a creative hub for future Kaizers Orchestra endeavors or simply provide a private sanctuary for the couple remains to be seen.
