Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series: Noomi Rapace & New Cast Revealed

Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series: Noomi Rapace & New Cast Revealed

March 16, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Assassin’s Creed fans have a fresh wave of casting news to dissect as Netflix’s long-in-development live-action series expands its ensemble. Joining the previously announced cast are Noomi Rapace, known for her roles in films like Prometheus and Lamb, alongside Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi, all taking on currently undisclosed recurring roles.

The additions, reported by Variety and The Wrap, bolster a cast that already includes Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, and Tanzyn Crawford. While character details remain tightly under wraps, the growing roster signals momentum for the series, which has been in development for nearly five years.

A History Spanning Centuries

Netflix’s grab on Assassin’s Creed is described as a “high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will.” The logline, as detailed by IGN, echoes the core conflict at the heart of the hugely popular video game franchise. For those unfamiliar, the Assassin’s Creed universe revolves around a centuries-long struggle between the Assassins and the Templars, two organizations with opposing ideologies battling for control of powerful artifacts and, the fate of humanity.

The franchise, which debuted in 2007, has sold over 230 million units worldwide, spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs. Each installment typically transports players to a different historical period, from the Italian Renaissance to Victorian England, allowing them to experience pivotal events through the eyes of an Assassin. The series is known for its blend of action, stealth, and historical fiction, and its exploration of themes like free will, power, and corruption.

Rapace’s Recent Roles and the Expanding Cast

Noomi Rapace has built a reputation for intense, physically demanding roles in science fiction and action films. Her breakthrough came with her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy. She subsequently gained international recognition for her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012) and its sequel, Alien: Covenant (2017). More recently, she starred in the Icelandic horror film Lamb (2021), earning critical acclaim for her performance. Her casting suggests Netflix is aiming for a similarly grounded and compelling performance in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Ramzy Bedia is a French actor and comedian known for his work in films like Of Money and Blood and Haunted Minds. Sean Harris has appeared in a range of critically acclaimed projects, including Mission: Impossible films and the series The Stranger. Corrado Invernizzi’s credits include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Ford v Ferrari. The addition of these seasoned actors indicates a commitment to quality and a desire to attract a broad audience.

Behind the Scenes: Showrunners and Production

The series is being showrun and executive produced by David Wiener, previously known for his work on the critically acclaimed series Homecoming, and Roberto Patino, a writer and producer on HBO’s Westworld. The duo will similarly serve as creators. Ubisoft Film & Television is heavily involved in the production, with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones serving as executive producers alongside Matt O’Toole. Claire Kiechel and Jaquén Castellanos are co-executive producers.

Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series, Peter Friedlander, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, stating, as reported by What’s On Netflix, “When we first announced our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, we set out with an ambitious goal to bring the rich, expansive world of Assassin’s Creed to life in bold new ways…it’s inspiring to see just how far that vision has come.”

Rome as a Potential Setting

While the official details remain scarce, unofficial reports suggest the series may be set in Ancient Rome. This would align with the franchise’s penchant for historical settings and offer a visually stunning backdrop for the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. The series is reportedly developing an all-new story, rather than adapting a specific game storyline, giving the showrunners creative freedom to explore the Assassin’s Creed universe in a fresh way.

What’s Next for the Brotherhood?

Filming is reportedly underway in Rome, Italy, though Netflix has not officially confirmed this. As of now, a release date for the Assassin’s Creed series remains unknown. Given the extensive post-production work typically required for a high-octane thriller of this scale, a late 2026 or early 2027 launch seems plausible, but is entirely speculative at this stage. The focus now shifts to further casting announcements and, eventually, the release of a first look at the series, which will undoubtedly generate significant excitement among fans of the franchise.
