Bianca Censori Testifies in Kanye West’s Malibu Mansion Lawsuit: Key Details

Bianca Censori Testifies in Kanye West’s Malibu Mansion Lawsuit: Key Details

March 5, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

The gutted remains of a Tadao Ando-designed Malibu mansion are at the center of a civil trial in Los Angeles, with Bianca Censori, wife of Kanye West (now known as Ye), taking the stand Thursday. Censori’s testimony offered a glimpse into the couple’s vision for the property, purchased for $57.3 million in 2021, and challenged claims that the project was in constant flux. The case, brought by contractor Tony Saxon, alleges unpaid wages, safety violations, and improper classification as an independent contractor.

Censori, dressed in a conservative black skirt and cardigan, reportedly answered questions with concise replies, pushing back on the characterization of the project as an attempt to build an “off-the-grid bunker.” Instead, she described the endeavor as rooted in “concepts” and “aesthetics,” maintaining that the intention was always to create a residence. This directly contradicts testimony from Saxon and handyman Jeromy Holding, who previously told jurors that Ye sought to remove all plumbing, wiring, and connections to city utilities. Holding further claimed Ye envisioned the property serving a variety of purposes, from a private school extension to a bomb shelter and even a children’s playground with slides and ramps.

Architectural Intent vs. Reality

The controversy surrounding the Malibu property stems from the dramatic transformation it underwent after West’s purchase. The home, a “classic” Ando design according to architect Ron Radziner, was stripped of its interior elements, leaving a concrete shell. This sparked outrage among architectural circles, with many viewing the demolition as a disrespectful act towards Ando’s work. As reported by AD Middle East, the house is now being sold for $39 million – a significant reduction from the initial listing price of $53 million earlier this year.

Censori, herself an architect, offered a different perspective, echoing sentiments she shared in a recent Vanity Fair interview. She suggested that the destruction of the home was “beautiful” and “symbolic,” arguing that architects often impose limitations on how a space is used after it’s completed. “They have this idea of, ‘Okay, once I have this home, and I’ve handed it off to the client, it has to remain the same way as when I passed it off,’” Censori remarked to Vanity Fair. “But that’s not how people use space.” She described the resulting state of the house – inhabited by bats and corroded by sea salt – as a natural evolution, comparing it to the organic form of a tree.

The Legal Battle and Allegations

Tony Saxon’s lawsuit alleges that he worked as a project manager and security guard on the property, sustaining injuries and being fired after raising safety concerns. He claims Ye failed to provide workers’ compensation insurance and is seeking damages for unpaid wages, medical expenses, and emotional distress. Saxon testified that he frequently communicated with Censori, seeking guidance on dealing with Ye and discussing design elements, including the aforementioned slides. He also alleged that Ye berated him for not removing electrical wiring quickly enough and for objecting to the use of fuel-powered generators indoors, citing carbon monoxide risks.

Censori’s testimony seemingly downplayed Saxon’s role, stating she only recalled seeing two other designers he brought onto the project during a single Zoom call. She explained that her husband was interested in a “closed-loop city” concept, and anyone involved in architectural work would be contributing to that broader vision. She also confirmed she holds power of attorney over Ye, allowing her to sign documents on his behalf.

A Pattern of Controversy

This legal dispute is just the latest in a series of controversies surrounding Ye. The Complex report details the financial fallout of the Malibu property, which was eventually sold for less than half its original purchase price. The situation was further complicated by Ye’s public struggles and antisemitic remarks, which led to the termination of his partnership with Adidas. More recently, Ye’s social media posts, including a declaration of “I’m a Nazi” and the sale of swastika-emblazoned shirts, sparked widespread condemnation and prompted him to seek treatment in rehab, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Censori addressed these controversies in her Vanity Fair interview, acknowledging moments when she considered leaving Ye. She described her role as providing support and “doing CPR for months,” recognizing that the world may not understand their dynamic. She also defended her provocative fashion choices, framing them as collaborative artistic expressions with her husband, comparing the process to a designer working with Gianni Versace.

The Kardashian Connection

The trial also revealed a brief, awkward encounter involving Kim Kardashian, Ye’s ex-wife. Handyman Jeromy Holding testified that he mistakenly identified Kardashian as Censori during an early stage of the renovation. This led to a heated argument between Kardashian and Ye, resulting in Kardashian leaving the property with their children. Ye then confronted Holding, demanding to know why he had misidentified his then-wife.

Ye’s legal team argues that Saxon was generously compensated for his work – $240,000 for less than two months – and is attempting to defraud him by claiming employee status rather than independent contractor status. The case will now go before a 12-member jury, with nine votes required to reach a verdict.

The outcome of this trial could have significant implications for both Saxon and Ye, and it continues to fuel public fascination with the couple’s unconventional lifestyle and creative endeavors. The fate of the Ando-designed Malibu mansion, and whether it will ever be restored to its former glory, remains uncertain.
