BTS ‘ARIRANG’: New Album, Tracklist & Comeback Details

BTS ‘ARIRANG’: New Album, Tracklist & Comeback Details

March 20, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

ARMY, the wait is over. After six years since a full-length release, BTS is back with ARIRANG, dropping today, March 20th, and marking a significant moment for the global superstars. The album arrives after a period of individual military service and solo projects for the seven members – RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook – and signals a new chapter for the group, one that promises a more mature and artistically refined sound.

ARIRANG features 14 tracks, a diverse collection showcasing collaborations with some of the biggest names in music production. Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Ryan Tedder join Diplo in contributing to the album, hinting at a sonic landscape that blends BTS’ signature style with fresh influences. The group notably eschewed pre-release singles, opting instead to unveil all 14 tracks – “Body to Body,” “Hooligan,” “Aliens,” “FYA,” “2.0,” “No. 29,” “SWIM,” “Merry Go Round,” “NORMAL,” “Like Animals,” “they don’t know ’bout us,” “One More Night,” “Please” and “Into the Sun” – simultaneously.

A Return to Form After Solo Pursuits

BTS’ last studio album, Be, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2020. That same year saw the group achieve unprecedented success with “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite” topping the Billboard Hot 100. They continued their chart dominance with “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” and a collaboration with Coldplay, “My Universe.” However, the peak of this success coincided with the members’ mandatory enlistment in the South Korean military, a period during which they pursued individual projects and maintained a connection with fans through solo releases.

The return to group activity began as soon as the final member completed his service. A GQ cover story preceding the ARIRANG release offered a glimpse into the group’s mindset. Suga promised a “diversity of genres” on the album, while RM described it as “truly the whole package.” This suggests a deliberate effort to explore new sonic territories while staying true to the core elements that have defined BTS’ sound.

The Significance of ‘Arirang’

The album’s title itself carries significant weight. “Arirang” is a traditional Korean folk song, deeply embedded in the nation’s cultural identity. According to a January press release from BigHit Music, the song “transcends time and generations… associated with emotions of connection, distance, and reunion.” The label positioned ARIRANG as “a deeply reflective body of perform” that explores BTS’ “identity and roots.” This choice of title signals a return to, and a celebration of, their Korean heritage, potentially resonating with fans on a deeper emotional level.

The album’s release is accompanied by a packed schedule for the group. Tomorrow, March 21st, BTS will hold a comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. This will be followed by a Spotify fan event in New York City and appearances on multiple episodes of The Tonight Indicate Starring Jimmy Fallon. Looking ahead, April will witness the band embark on a global stadium tour, further solidifying their position as one of the world’s most popular touring acts. Details on the tour schedule have been released, promising a comprehensive itinerary across multiple continents.

Diplo’s Involvement and Recent Debate

Production on ARIRANG includes contributions from several prominent figures, including Diplo, who worked on five tracks for the album. He shared a photo with Jungkook and RM on X (formerly Twitter), asking ARMY to “be nice.” However, Diplo’s involvement has sparked some controversy. As reported by Koreaboo, Diplo was previously accused of distributing revenge p*rn and involved in a related lawsuit as recently as 2024. This history led to criticism regarding his collaboration with BTS, and a related debate involving BLACKPINK’s Jennie, who previously worked with Diplo on her album Ruby and faced similar backlash.

What’s Next for BTS

Beyond the immediate promotional cycle for ARIRANG, the band’s future remains focused on touring and continuing to connect with their global fanbase. The group’s members have expressed a desire to continue pushing creative boundaries and exploring new musical directions. The success of ARIRANG will undoubtedly influence their future artistic choices and solidify their legacy as one of the most influential musical acts of the 21st century. The tour schedule, spanning multiple continents, will be a key indicator of their continued global appeal and ability to draw massive crowds.
