Cannelles: French Electropop’s Rising Dreamer on New Music & Tour

Cannelles: French Electropop’s Rising Dreamer on New Music & Tour

March 7, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Cannelle, the French singer-producer behind the shimmering electropop project CLOVER, is gaining momentum as a rising force in the electronic music scene. Fresh off a North American tour opening for Australian producer Ninajirachi, Cannelle is preparing for the release of her debut mixtape this summer, a project she describes as “really fun.” The news comes after a recent profile in The FADER, solidifying her place as an artist to watch.

The mixtape, which will feature approximately 15 new tracks, is a deeply personal project for Cannelle, blending both French and English lyrics. She’s collaborating with a notable roster of producers, including Oscar Scheller (known for his work with PinkPantheress and Lily Allen), Warpstr (who has produced for Bladee and Babyxsosa), and Chicken (feordorian, Isabella Lovestory). Cannelle herself co-produced some of the songs, signaling a hands-on approach to her artistic vision.

From Southern France to the American Stage

Born and raised in the south of France, Cannelle first surfaced on the music radar in the summer of 2024 with her debut single, “LUCKY.” She followed that up with “CLOVER” in November, a track that captures a feeling of infatuation. Her music, characterized by maximalist synth arrangements and a dreamy aesthetic, quickly resonated with listeners. The FADER profile notes her striking visual style – specifically, her “ice blue tresses” – as a key part of her emerging brand.

The opportunity to open for Ninajirachi on tour marked a significant step in Cannelle’s career. She admitted to feeling shy during a performance in Detroit, having previously played to smaller crowds. However, the enthusiastic response from the audience quickly boosted her confidence. “But then I felt comfortable and people cheered me up and I experience like I gained new fans,” she told The FADER. This experience highlights the challenges and rewards of transitioning from smaller venues to larger stages, a common hurdle for emerging artists.

A Lineage of Electronic Influences

Cannelle’s musical upbringing was diverse, shaped by both French and American influences. Her father’s fondness for artists like Bob St. Clair, David Guetta, and Daft Punk introduced her to the world of electronic music. Later, she discovered American pop through the visually captivating music videos of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. This blend of influences is evident in her own work, which combines the energy of French house music with the melodic sensibilities of contemporary pop.

Ninajirachi, the artist Cannelle recently supported on tour, has also experienced a meteoric rise in the electronic music world. According to her Wikipedia page, Ninajirachi (born Nina Jo Wilson in 1999) is an Australian electronic DJ and producer from the Central Coast, New South Wales. She released her debut album, I Love My Computer, in August 2025 via Nina Las Vegas’ record label, earning critical acclaim and a sweep of awards at the 2025 ARIA Music Awards, including Best Solo Artist, Breakthrough Artist, and Best Independent Release. She also won the Australian Music Prize and Breakthrough Artist of the Year for the NSW Music Prize.

The “Girl EDM” Wave and Cannelle’s Place Within It

Ninajirachi is often described as a leading figure in the “girl EDM” movement, a term gaining traction to describe the increasing visibility of female and non-binary producers and DJs in the electronic music scene. The FADER’s Facebook post highlights her upcoming performance at Coachella, further cementing her status as a rising star. Cannelle, as an opening act on Ninajirachi’s tour, benefits from this momentum and is positioned to reach a wider audience within this growing community.

Production Details and the Mixtape’s Sound

The collaborative nature of Cannelle’s upcoming mixtape is noteworthy. Working with producers like Oscar Scheller, Warpstr, and Chicken suggests a willingness to experiment and push creative boundaries. Scheller’s previous work with PinkPantheress, known for her lo-fi and nostalgic sound, could indicate a similar aesthetic influence on some of Cannelle’s tracks. Warpstr’s contributions, rooted in the hyperpop and cloud rap scenes, might introduce a more experimental edge.

The decision to release half of the mixtape in French and half in English is a strategic one, potentially aimed at broadening her appeal to both European and North American audiences. It also reflects Cannelle’s own bilingual identity and her desire to connect with listeners on a deeper level through her lyrics.

What’s on the Horizon for Cannelle?

Cannelle is currently finalizing the recording of her debut mixtape, with a release slated for early summer. The project represents a culmination of her creative efforts over the past year and a significant step towards establishing herself as a prominent figure in the electropop landscape. Following the mixtape’s release, Cannelle is expected to continue touring and building her fanbase, potentially with festival appearances and further collaborations. The success of the mixtape will likely dictate the direction of her future projects and her overall trajectory within the music industry.
