Child Stars Turned Doctors: Meet 4 Indonesian Celebrities Who Became Physicians

Child Stars Turned Doctors: Meet 4 Indonesian Celebrities Who Became Physicians

March 13, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Jakarta – The world of Indonesian entertainment often sees former child stars trade the spotlight for different paths. A growing number are choosing careers in medicine, bringing a unique dedication and discipline honed during their years in the public eye to the demanding field of healthcare. Four former Indonesian child artists have made this transition, proving that a passion for helping others can blossom even after years on stage and screen.

Alfandy, known as the sole male member of the Trio Kwek Kwek alongside Dea Ananda and Leony, has completed his education and is now a neurological specialist in the United States. He currently resides in California, according to a former colleague. Photo: Instagram @alfandynp

Among them is Alfandy Dwi Cahyono, formerly of the popular Trio Kwek Kwek. Born on October 29, 1985, in Surabaya, Alfandy transitioned from the entertainment industry to pursue a career in medicine in the United States. He is now a nurse practitioner in Philadelphia, having demonstrated academic excellence throughout his schooling in Jakarta and later at Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School in Pennsylvania. His Wikipedia page details his journey from pop singer to healthcare professional.

Mega Utami, recognized for her role in the film *Joshua Oh Joshua*, also followed a similar path, earning her medical degree from the University of Indonesia and now working as a doctor. Rimarsha Nugrafitra, another former child star known for her role in the 2003 sinetron *Bulan dan Bintang* alongside Nikita Willy, is now a dentist, having graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry and Oral Medicine at Prof. Dr. Moestopo University in 2016. Her Instagram account provides a glimpse into her life as a dental professional.

Rounding out this group is Maissy, a singer from the 1990s, who now practices medicine as Dr. Pramaisshela Arinda, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia. Her Instagram profile showcases her work as a physician.

This trend highlights a common thread among former child stars: a strong work ethic and a commitment to education. The discipline required to succeed in the entertainment industry appears to translate well to the rigorous demands of medical school and practice. It’s a testament to their dedication and a reminder that career paths can evolve in unexpected and fulfilling ways.

The decision to leave the entertainment world and pursue medicine wasn’t necessarily a sudden one for these individuals. Alfandy, for example, continued his education in the United States after Trio Kwek Kwek disbanded, eventually finding his calling in healthcare. This demonstrates a deliberate shift in focus and a commitment to long-term goals beyond the fleeting nature of fame.

Looking ahead, these four individuals are now contributing to society in a different, yet equally impactful, way. Their stories serve as an inspiration, demonstrating that it’s possible to reinvent oneself and pursue a passion for helping others, regardless of one’s past experiences.
