Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance Joins Death Metal Band Frozen Soul – Listen Now!

Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance Joins Death Metal Band Frozen Soul – Listen Now!

March 2, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Gerard Way, best known as the frontman of My Chemical Romance, has lent his vocals to a decidedly different project: a collaboration with Texas-based death metal band Frozen Soul on their upcoming single, “No Place of Warmth.” The track, a pulverizing blend of guttural brutality and melodic grandeur, marks an unexpected but welcome foray into the metal world for Way, and previews the band’s third full-length album of the same name, set for release on May 8 via Century Media Records.

The collaboration came about through a burgeoning friendship. Frozen Soul vocalist Chad Green explained to multiple outlets that he and Way connected a couple of years ago and discovered a shared appreciation for metal music. “I knew he had a love for metal, so I spun the idea to him about singing in a Frozen Soul song and he was stoked!” Green said, adding that Way is “an amazing artist and musician whose creative vision has shaped generations and more to come.”

A Dark Concept, Delivered with Cinematic Flair

“No Place of Warmth” isn’t just a vocal cameo; Way embodies a character within the song’s narrative. He portrays a grotesque, hooded figure in the accompanying music video, directed by Brendan McGowen. The song itself, according to Green, explores the challenging choice between succumbing to life’s hardships or finding strength and warmth amidst the void. “Life is always coming at you, and death doesn’t stop—you might slow it down, but it’s always coming—so you have to build the best out of it and march on,” Green elaborated.

The visual component of the track further enhances this theme. Actor London Smith, who previously appeared in Frozen Soul’s 2023 “Morbid Effigy” video, returns as Death, with the narrative centering on a character’s attempt to shield themselves from the inevitable. Green explained that this imagery represents a refusal to be consumed by fear and a commitment to cherishing life’s experiences. You can watch the video here.

Frozen Soul’s Expanding Universe

This isn’t the only high-profile collaboration on “No Place of Warmth.” Frozen Soul has also enlisted Machine Head’s Robb Flynn for the track “Invoke War” and Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg for “Dreadnought,” signaling a deliberate effort to broaden their reach within the metal community. The album follows their 2023 release, “Glacial Domination,” and represents a continuation of their exploration of dark themes and complex musical arrangements.

The album is available for pre-order now in a variety of formats, including limited edition vinyl pressings. Options include a black LP, a sparkle starlight LP, a pearlescent lagoon LP, translucent light blue LP, cobalt ghost LP, and a limited edition zoetrope picture disc LP. Details on the various editions can be found through Century Media Records and band-exclusive offerings.

My Chemical Romance: Beyond the Stage

Way’s appearance with Frozen Soul arrives amidst continued activity surrounding My Chemical Romance. The band recently completed a highly successful tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their landmark album, “The Black Parade.” The tour, which spanned the UK, Europe, and North America, saw the band perform the album in its entirety, alongside other fan favorites and rarities. Tickets for the tour were in high demand, with shows selling out quickly.

Adding to the excitement, My Chemical Romance recently wiped their X (formerly Twitter) account, sparking speculation among fans about potential new announcements. The band also debuted an unreleased song, “War Beneath The Rain,” during a Los Angeles show last summer, hinting at possible future material. The tour featured a robust lineup of support acts, including Echo & The Bunnymen, Interpol, Joan Jett, Skunk Anansie, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Mogwai, further solidifying the band’s position as a major force in the alternative music scene.

Touring and Supporting Acts

Frozen Soul will be hitting the road as well, supporting Avatar on a spring 2026 U.S. Tour, and also have European dates lined up alongside Heaven Shall Burn, The Halo Effect, and The Black Dahlia Murder. This extensive touring schedule will provide ample opportunity for fans to experience their music live and witness the energy of their performances.

What’s on the Horizon for Frozen Soul?

Beyond the album release and tour dates, Frozen Soul is focused on continuing to push the boundaries of their sound and connect with their growing fanbase. The band’s willingness to collaborate with artists from different genres, like Way, demonstrates their openness to experimentation and their commitment to expanding their creative horizons. The full tracklist for “No Place of Warmth” is as follows:

  1. No Place of Warmth (featuring Gerard Way)
  2. Invoke War (featuring Robb Flynn of Machine Head)
  3. Absolute Zero
  4. Dreadnought (featuring Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg)

  7. Ethereal Dreams
  8. Skinned by the Wind
  9. DEATHWEAVER
  10. Frost Forged

With “No Place of Warmth” poised to make a significant impact on the death metal scene, and Way’s continued involvement with My Chemical Romance, both artists are demonstrating a remarkable ability to evolve and explore new creative avenues.
