Hilary Duff’s Date Night & Sister Estrangement: All the Details
Hilary Duff and musician Matthew Koma stepped out for a date night in New York City on Monday, , at The Eighty Six steakhouse in Manhattan’s West Village. The outing comes amidst a period of personal reflection for Duff, who recently opened up about a painful estrangement from her sister, Haylie Duff.
Duff, 38, opted for a preppy ensemble consisting of a grey vest over a white tee, paired with black jeans, and booties. Her signature flaxen hair was styled with extensions from The Hair Shop, and her makeup, applied by Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, featured a contoured complexion and pink lips. Koma, also 38, accompanied her, though their blended family of four children – Banks, seven; Mae, four; Townes, 21 months; and Luca, 14 – remained at home.
The couple, married since December 2019, share three daughters together. Duff is also mother to Luca Comrie from her previous marriage to retired NHL centre Mike Comrie, which ended in 2014 after three years. Duff and Koma initially connected in 2013 while collaborating on her fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., and began dating in 2017.
Their creative partnership continues, with Duff and Koma recently collaborating on Duff’s sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, released in February 2026. The album is currently at No. 191 on the Billboard 200 chart. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Duff discussed her children’s musical tastes, noting a preference for K-pop and “Raining Tacos” that she jokingly described as “horrific.” She expressed a desire to introduce her children to the music she grew up with, like Squeeze, Jackson Browne, and Counting Crows.
The date night followed a candid conversation on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, where Duff tearfully discussed her strained relationship with her sister Haylie. “My sister and I don’t speak,” Duff revealed, expressing hope that the estrangement wouldn’t be permanent but acknowledging it was the current reality. She described the situation as a “raw nerve,” emphasizing the deep bond they once shared as sisters.
Duff elaborated on the complexities of family relationships, stating, “I love my family in certain ways and certain memories. And also like huge struggles have, you know, occurred and [I’m] not putting that one responsibility on anybody involved, you know, assuming some myself. So it’s very complicated.”
While navigating personal challenges, Duff is also preparing for a significant professional milestone: her first world tour in nearly two decades, “The Lucky Me Tour.” The 57-date tour is set to kick off on , with two shows at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida. The tour will feature all-female opening acts, including English synth-pop artist La Roux and Canadian singers Lauren Spencer Smith and Jade LeMac.
Duff expressed nervousness about returning to large-scale arena performances, telling Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, “I haven’t done a giant arena, Jimmy, in 20 years. So yeah, I’m going to be, like, really nervous. Really sweaty.”
Before embarking on the tour, Duff will conclude a sold-out mini-residency at the Voltaire inside The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas on . The singer, who currently attracts 4.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, first gained prominence as the star of the Disney Channel comedy series Lizzie McGuire (2001–2004) and its subsequent 2003 film adaptation.
