In a candid appearance on the YouTube channel ‘Human Story,’ the group detailed the financial struggles and sacrifices inherent in pursuing a career in the intensely competitive world of Korean pop music.

The conversation, which took place on March 10th, offered a rare glimpse behind the scenes for the eight-member group – E-Chan, D1, GK, Heechan, Lune, Junseo, Yuku, and Harry-June. Junseo, born in 2001, spoke to the dedication required, stating he’d “devoted [his] youth” to the pursuit, spending half of his twenties as an idol. Despite the hardships, he expressed a genuine love for his perform, finding “a thrill from the cheers and excitement” of performing on stage.

DKB’s journey hasn’t been typical. D1, the group’s leader, pointed out the relatively late debut age of the members, noting that the youngest is 23 and the oldest is 30. He drew a comparison to BTS, with member Jungkook born in 1997, highlighting the extensive time commitment required for success in the industry. This detail underscores a shift in the K-pop landscape, where groups are debuting later and facing increased pressure to achieve rapid success.

The group’s agency, Brave Entertainment, founded by producer Brave Brothers – known for hits with SISTAR and Brave Girls – was also discussed. The financial realities facing DKB are particularly stark. Income, D1 explained, primarily comes from performances and royalties, with songwriting providing additional incentives. Approaching his thirties, he expressed fear and uncertainty about the future. “Honestly, I’m very scared,” he confessed. “In my twenties, I chose this path because I loved music and pursued it, but now that I’m in my thirties, I feel I can’t continue like this.” He articulated the conflict between personal responsibilities – protecting his family and self-care – and the relentless demands of the industry. The group’s continued perseverance, he explained, is fueled by their fans, known as ‘BB,’ who provide the motivation to keep going.

DKB’s members expressed a profound connection with their fans, stating they would still choose to be part of DKB even if reborn, and acknowledging their fans as their primary source of motivation.
