Mantas Stonkus Show: Brawl Breaks Out at Lithuanian Performance in Dublin

A Dublin Show Takes an Unexpected Turn: Mantas Stonkus’ Performance Interrupted by Audience Altercation

A performance by Lithuanian comedian Mantas Stonkus in Dublin took an unexpected turn recently, as a disagreement between audience members escalated into a physical altercation. The incident occurred during Stonkus’s show, “Mantai plinka,” and was recounted by Stonkus and his colleagues, Rolandas Mackevičius and Mantas Katleris, on their popular podcast “Vėl tie patys.” While the cause of the initial dispute remains somewhat unclear, the incident didn’t derail the show, and, remarkably, the audience remained engaged throughout.

According to accounts from those present, the trouble began with one audience member reportedly kicking a chair. Another attendee objected, prompting a verbal exchange. “As far as I know, one bičas was swinging his legs and kicking the chair. Another bičas turned around and said: stop kicking the chair. The show continued,” Stonkus explained on the podcast, as reported by Delfi. However, the situation quickly deteriorated, leading to a full-blown fight.

From Verbal Exchange to Physical Altercation

Stonkus described the scene unfolding from the stage: “They were sitting in the back, I was telling my jokes – suddenly the lights came on, security guards started running towards them.” The response was swift, with security personnel intervening to break up the fight. What added to the surreal nature of the event, according to 15min, was that the security personnel responding weren’t typical bouncers, but an older woman with a flashlight attempting to separate the combatants.

Despite the disruption, the show went on. Katleris joked that Stonkus’s performance was so captivating for the Lithuanian diaspora in Dublin that passions simply boiled over. “Everything continued – the audience didn’t disperse. I don’t reckon I’ve ever had such a good audience in my life. Even with the fight, it was the best performance,” Katleris said, as reported by Lrytas.lt.

A Strong Connection with the Dublin Audience

Stonkus echoed this sentiment, adding that Dublin consistently delivers the most enthusiastic audiences on their international tour dates. “As many times as we’ve been in Dublin, Dublin has had the best performances of all the foreign shows. The fact that they fought doesn’t mean there are bad people there… The people were fantastic, very longing – a very good audience,” he stated. He emphasized that the incident didn’t reflect negatively on the Lithuanian community in Ireland.

The incident highlights the strong connection Stonkus and his collaborators have forged with their audience, particularly those living abroad. The “Mantai plinka” show, and the podcast “Vėl tie patys” featuring Stonkus, Mackevičius, and Katleris, have become popular platforms for Lithuanian humor and storytelling, resonating with audiences both in Lithuania and within the diaspora. The podcast’s success is evident in its ability to draw attention to events like this, turning a local incident into a talking point for a wider audience.

The “Vėl tie patys” Podcast and its Growing Popularity

The trio – Stonkus, Mackevičius, and Katleris – have built a significant following through their candid and often humorous discussions on “Vėl tie patys.” The podcast format allows them to share personal anecdotes and observations, creating a relatable and engaging experience for listeners. Their recent recounting of the Dublin incident is a testament to the podcast’s ability to capture both the lighthearted and unexpected moments of their lives and careers.

While details surrounding the specific cause of the altercation remain limited, the incident itself underscores the passionate response Stonkus’s performances elicit. The fact that the show continued uninterrupted, and that the audience remained receptive, speaks to the strength of the connection between the performers and their fans. It’s a reminder that even unexpected disruptions can’t always derail a good show, especially when the energy in the room is already high.

Looking Ahead: Continued Touring and Podcast Episodes

Stonkus and his colleagues are expected to continue their tour schedule, bringing their brand of Lithuanian humor to audiences around the world. The “Vėl tie patys” podcast will likely continue to provide fans with behind-the-scenes glimpses into their lives and experiences, including further reflections on the Dublin incident. No specific dates for future tour stops have been announced, but updates can be found on their official social media channels and through podcast announcements.
