Nine Inch Nails Surprise Release TRON: Ares Remix Album ‘Divergence’

March 1, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Nine Inch Nails have delivered a compelling follow-up to their Grammy-winning soundtrack for Disney’s TRON: Ares, releasing TRON Ares: Divergence – a reimagining featuring previously unreleased score material and remixes from a diverse roster of collaborators. The surprise release expands on the sonic world Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross created for the 2025 film, offering fans a fresh perspective on the project’s electronic soundscape.

Expanding the TRON: Ares Universe

TRON Ares: Divergence includes remixes by Boys Noize, ARCA, Mark Pritchard, Lanark Artefax, Chilly Gonzales, Danny L Harle, Jack Dangers, Pixel Grip, Working Men’s Club, The Dare, and Schwefelgelband. The original TRON: Ares soundtrack, composed by Reznor and Ross but credited to Nine Inch Nails, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped both the Top Dance and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts, demonstrating its broad appeal. The album also garnered a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for the track “As Alive As You Necessitate Me To Be.”

This remix project arrives as Nine Inch Nails are actively touring, currently on the North American leg of their “Peel It Back” tour. The tour kicked off on February 27th in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is scheduled to conclude on March 16th in Sacramento, California.

A Deep Dive into the Remixes

The tracklist for TRON Ares: Divergence reveals a significant reworking of the original score. Highlights include remixes of “I Know You Can Feel It” by both Arca and Mark Pritchard, and “A Question of Trust” by Boys Noize. Reznor and Ross: A Consistent Presence in Film Scoring

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have become increasingly prominent figures in film scoring over the past two decades. Their work extends far beyond TRON: Ares, encompassing collaborations with directors like David Fincher on films such as The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and Gone Girl (2014). Spin magazine noted the success of the original TRON: Ares soundtrack, highlighting its impact on the electronic music landscape. Their scores are often characterized by a blend of electronic textures, atmospheric soundscapes, and a sense of unease, perfectly complementing the often-dark and complex narratives of the films they score. They’ve won multiple Academy Awards for their work, solidifying their reputation as some of the most innovative and sought-after composers in the industry.

The TRON Legacy and Nine Inch Nails’ Involvement

The TRON franchise itself has a long and storied history, beginning with the groundbreaking 1982 film TRON, which was notable for its pioneering use of computer-generated imagery. The 2010 sequel, TRON: Legacy, also featured a highly acclaimed soundtrack composed by Daft Punk. Nine Inch Nails’ involvement in TRON: Ares, and now this remix project, continues that tradition of pairing the franchise with influential electronic musicians. Interestingly, Reznor and Ross even made a cameo appearance in TRON: Ares itself, appearing as fighter pilots, as Reddit’s r/MovieDetails pointed out in December 2025.

Availability and Formats

TRON Ares: Divergence is available now digitally. A two-LP vinyl set and CD edition will follow on June 6th. Fans can pre-order the physical editions now. The release of Divergence provides a further opportunity for fans to immerse themselves in the world of TRON: Ares, and showcases the continued creative partnership between Nine Inch Nails and the world of cinematic sound design.

As Nine Inch Nails continue their tour, the release of TRON Ares: Divergence serves as a reminder of their versatility and willingness to explore new sonic territories, solidifying their position as one of the most influential and enduring acts in modern music.
