Reminders of Him Box Office: Opens to M, Hoppers Remains #1

Reminders of Him Box Office: Opens to $20M, Hoppers Remains #1

March 15, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

The box office landscape continues to demonstrate a surprising resilience, with both established blockbusters and new releases finding audiences despite a generally cautious market. This weekend, Pixar’s March 8th release, “Hoppers,” maintains its grip on the number one spot, while Colleen Hoover’s adaptation, “Reminders of Him,” exceeded expectations with a solid debut. Meanwhile, A24’s horror offering, “Undertone,” attempts to carve out its own space, though early audience reactions suggest a challenging road ahead.

“Hoppers” Holds Strong, “Reminders of Him” Connects with Female Audiences

“Hoppers” continues to perform admirably, projecting a second weekend gross of approximately $30 million – a decline of just 34% from its opening. This sustained performance speaks to Pixar’s enduring brand loyalty and the film’s broad appeal. The success is particularly noteworthy given the increasingly competitive nature of the family entertainment market.

However, the weekend’s biggest surprise is arguably the performance of “Reminders of Him.” Based on the popular novel by Colleen Hoover, the film starring Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, debuted with an estimated $19-20 million. While critical reception has been mixed – currently holding a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – audiences, particularly women, have clearly responded to the film’s emotional core. The demographic breakdown is striking: a full 81% of the opening weekend audience was female, with women over the age of 25 comprising the largest segment at 57%. Conversely, the film has largely failed to attract younger male viewers, accounting for only 4% of ticket sales.

This strong female skew is not entirely unexpected, given Hoover’s established readership and the novel’s focus on themes of love, loss, and second chances. The film’s marketing campaign clearly targeted this demographic, and the results suggest a successful strategy. Tyriq Withers’ performance is already being singled out for praise, potentially elevating his profile within the industry. The film’s success demonstrates the continued power of book adaptations, particularly those with a dedicated fanbase.

A24’s “Undertone” Faces an Uphill Battle, “Scream 7” and “Goat” Continue Steady Runs

A24’s foray into the paranormal with “Undertone” landed in third place with a projected $10 million debut. The film, starring Nina Kiri and Adam DiMarco, follows a paranormal podcaster haunted by ghostly recordings. While critics have been somewhat receptive – awarding it a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – audience scores are significantly lower at 53%, and it received a ‘C’ CinemaScore. This disparity suggests a potential disconnect between critical assessment and audience expectations. A24 often takes risks with genre films, and “Undertone” appears to be another example of their willingness to champion unique, albeit potentially divisive, projects.

Further down the chart, “Scream 7” continues to demonstrate the enduring appeal of the horror franchise, adding another $7.5 million to its total in its third weekend – a drop of around 56%. “Goat” rounds out the top five, earning $5 million. These films represent a more stable, if less spectacular, segment of the box office, relying on established fanbases and consistent performance.

“The Bride” Falters, Highlighting the Risks of New Releases

The weekend also serves as a cautionary tale for new releases. Last week’s newcomer, “The Bride,” has experienced a dramatic fall from grace, projected to earn just $2.15 million in its second weekend – a staggering 70% decline from its already underwhelming opening of just over $7 million. This rapid drop underscores the challenges facing new films in a crowded marketplace, and the importance of positive word-of-mouth. “The Bride’s” failure highlights the inherent risks associated with launching a new property, particularly without a strong marketing campaign or a recognizable star.

The overall box office picture remains complex. While “Hoppers” continues to demonstrate the strength of established franchises, and “Reminders of Him” proves the power of a dedicated fanbase, the performance of films like “Undertone” and “The Bride” underscores the volatility of the market. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether these trends continue, and whether the box office can maintain its current momentum.
