Samsung Art Store Adds SFMOMA Masterpieces – Modern Art for Your Home | Samsung Newsroom
Samsung is expanding its foray into the art world, partnering with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) to bring a curated collection of modern masterpieces directly into homes via the Samsung Art Store. The collaboration, announced today, , marks the first time a West Coast museum has joined the platform, significantly broadening its roster of institutional partners.
The initial collection features 34 artworks from SFMOMA’s holdings, showcasing iconic pieces from the 20th century. Viewers can now display works such as Diego Rivera’s “The Flower Carrier” (1935), Henri Matisse’s “Femme au chapeau” (1905), Wayne Thiebaud’s “Display Cakes” (1963), Jackson Pollock’s “Guardians of the Secret” (1943), and Piet Mondrian’s “New York City 2” (1941) on compatible Samsung displays.
This partnership isn’t simply about reproduction; it’s about accessibility. SFMOMA’s collection, previously limited by geography, is now available to a global audience. “By making our collection available through innovative technology, we’re reaching audiences who may never visit San Francisco while creating new opportunities for art to enrich daily life around the world,” stated Christopher Bedford, Helen and Charles Schwab Director of SFMOMA.
The move also represents a strategic expansion for Samsung Art Store, adding works by artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Wayne Thiebaud to its existing library for the first time. Heeyeong Ahn, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s commitment to “leveraging its market-leading visual display solutions and partnerships to maximize the richness of the Samsung Art Store experience in homes across the world.”
Samsung’s Art TVs, specifically The Frame and The Frame Pro, are designed to showcase artwork with a focus on fidelity. Features like Pantone Validated ArtfulColor aim to preserve the original palette of the pieces, while Anti-Reflection with Matte Display and customizable bezels are intended to mimic the presentation of artwork in a traditional gallery setting. The Slim Fit Wall Mount further contributes to this effect by minimizing visible wiring.
The Frame Pro takes this a step further with its upgraded Neo QLED 4K display, promising brighter colors and sharper contrast. The Wireless One Connect Box simplifies installation and contributes to a cleaner aesthetic. These features collectively aim to transform living spaces into curated art galleries.
This collaboration highlights a growing trend of museums and cultural institutions seeking new avenues to reach audiences beyond their physical walls. The partnership with SFMOMA joins Samsung Art Store’s existing network of over 80 partnerships, demonstrating the platform’s ambition to become a central hub for digital art experiences.
The implications extend beyond simply providing access to art. For museums like SFMOMA, these partnerships offer a new revenue stream and a way to engage with a broader, potentially younger, demographic. For Samsung, it reinforces the value proposition of its Art TVs, positioning them not just as entertainment devices but as lifestyle products that enhance the home environment.
The move also speaks to a broader cultural shift in how people consume art. While a visit to a museum remains a valuable experience, the convenience and accessibility of digital platforms are increasingly appealing to audiences. Samsung and SFMOMA are betting that this partnership will tap into that demand, bringing the world of modern art to a wider audience than ever before.
The SFMOMA collection is now available exclusively through Samsung Art Store on compatible Samsung Art TVs.
