Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Breaks Records | Tom Holland’s Return

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Breaks Records | Tom Holland’s Return

March 19, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the iconic web-slinger is already making history, even before its official release. The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shattered viewership records, amassing a staggering 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours – officially becoming the most-viewed trailer of all time. The numbers confirm a level of anticipation that surpasses even recent blockbusters, signaling a potentially massive opening for the film this summer.

The trailer’s release, which occurred on Wednesday, didn’t just break the record; it demolished it. Within eight hours of going live, Brand New Day had already secured 373 million views, eclipsing the previous benchmark set by Deadpool & Wolverine, which previously held the title with 365 million views. Variety reports this surge in viewership too surpassed the 24-hour record previously held by the trailer for the video game Grand Theft Auto VI (475 million views).

A New Chapter for Peter Parker

Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks a significant evolution for Peter Parker, four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland’s portrayal now depicts an adult Peter, living a solitary life after voluntarily erasing himself from the memories of those he loves. This premise, as detailed in Deadline, presents a compelling narrative shift, with Peter dedicating himself entirely to protecting New York City as a full-time Spider-Man. However, the increasing demands of his crime-fighting life are triggering a surprising physical evolution, threatening his very existence, while a new pattern of crimes introduces a formidable new threat.

The road to this record-breaking trailer launch wasn’t conventional. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios employed a unique “scavenger hunt” marketing campaign, as reported by Bolavip. Instead of a traditional teaser, Tom Holland announced that the trailer had been “shattered” into dozens of short, 1-to-2 second clips. These snippets were then distributed to influencers, fan accounts, and cosplayers globally, creating a viral puzzle that engaged fans and built anticipation before the full trailer’s release.

Holland’s Journey as Spider-Man

Tom Holland first donned the Spider-Man suit in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, quickly becoming a fan-favorite iteration of the character. His subsequent appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), cemented his place as a central figure in the franchise. No Way Home, a particularly ambitious project that brought together multiple generations of Spider-Man actors, grossed a remarkable $1.9 billion worldwide, setting a high bar for future installments.

Production on Brand New Day wasn’t without its challenges. Holland briefly paused filming after sustaining a mild concussion on set, according to Rolling Stone. Despite this setback, production resumed, and the film is currently slated for a July 31 release.

The Creative Team and Supporting Cast

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who also penned the scripts for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. The film boasts a star-studded cast alongside Holland, including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman.

Zendaya, who plays MJ in the Spider-Man films, recently praised Holland and the upcoming sequel, teasing that “people will not be disappointed,” as reported by Deadline. This sentiment echoes Holland’s own enthusiasm for the project, which he discussed in an October 2024 interview on the Rich Roll podcast, stating that he and Zendaya were “bouncing around the living room” after reading the script, convinced it was “a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”

What’s on the Horizon

With the trailer’s record-breaking performance, anticipation for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is at an all-time high. The film’s release on July 31 is now a major event on the summer blockbuster calendar. The studio will likely lean into the positive momentum with a robust marketing campaign in the coming months, potentially including further trailers, television spots, and promotional appearances by the cast. The success of the trailer suggests a strong box office performance is likely, potentially surpassing the impressive numbers achieved by Spider-Man: No Way Home.
