World of Tanks x Mafia Crossover: New Tank & Event Details

World of Tanks x Mafia Crossover: New Tank & Event Details

March 16, 2026 Laura Fontaine - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

The worlds of gritty crime drama and armored warfare are colliding in a rather unexpected way. World of Tanks, the popular free-to-play massively multiplayer online game, is gearing up for a crossover event with 2K’s iconic Mafia franchise. From March 19th to March 29th, players can dive into the “Battle Pass Special: Mafia,” bringing a slice of Lost Heaven’s atmosphere to the tank battles.

The announcement, first reported by GameSpot, features a description hinting at the arrival of “a renowned family of decent people” to the game. These “respectable gentlemen from the fine city of Lost Heaven provide valuable services,” according to the event’s promotional material. It’s a playful nod to the series’ themes of organized crime and moral ambiguity.

A Tank Named “Predatore”

At the heart of this crossover is the “Predatore” tank, an Italian vehicle boasting a view range of 390 meters and a top speed of 62 km/h. The tank’s specifications, as detailed in the promotional materials, also include a reverse speed of up to 22 km/h. A trailer showcasing the Predatore in action is available on YouTube, giving players a glimpse of its capabilities on the battlefield. You can view the trailer here.

Mafia’s Enduring Legacy

For those unfamiliar, the Mafia series has a rich history in the video game landscape. The original Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, released in 2002, quickly gained acclaim for its immersive open-world environment, compelling narrative, and realistic depiction of organized crime in the 1930s. The game, developed by Illusion Softworks (later acquired by 2K Games), was a critical and commercial success, spawning sequels like Mafia II and Mafia III. In fact, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was voted the best video game developed in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in a 2014 Bonusweb survey, receiving 3866 votes out of 13,143. The Czech Republic has a thriving video game development scene, and the Mafia series is considered one of its biggest exports.

Why This Crossover?

The partnership between Wargaming (the developer of World of Tanks) and 2K Games is, admittedly, unusual. Crossovers are becoming increasingly common in the gaming world, often as a marketing tactic to attract new players and re-engage existing ones. However, the pairing of a tank combat simulator with a narrative-driven crime game feels particularly…distinctive. It’s likely a strategic move to tap into the nostalgia surrounding the Mafia franchise, especially with the recent release of Mafia: Definitive Edition in 2020, a full remake of the original game.

World of Tanks’ Continued Popularity

World of Tanks, launched in 2010, remains a significant player in the free-to-play gaming market. The game has cultivated a dedicated player base over the years, and continues to receive regular updates and content additions. A Reddit thread from April 2023 shows players discussing how long they’ve been playing the game, demonstrating the longevity of the community. The thread offers a snapshot of the game’s player base and their continued engagement.

What’s Next for Both Franchises?

Beyond the crossover event, the future of both franchises remains somewhat unclear. 2K Games has been relatively quiet about any potential new Mafia projects following the release of the Definitive Edition. However, the success of that remake suggests there’s still strong demand for the series. Wargaming, is consistently updating World of Tanks with new vehicles, maps, and game modes. The company also recently engaged in a promotional partnership with World of Tanks on X (formerly Twitter) on March 15th, 2025. You can view the post here.

For World of Tanks players, the “Battle Pass Special: Mafia” offers a unique opportunity to experience a different aesthetic within the game. Whether this crossover will lead to further collaborations between the two franchises remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a curious and intriguing development in the gaming world.
