Personality is Malleable

The good news is that personality isn’t fixed. Modern research views personality as a pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving – descriptive labels rather than rigid determinants. Personality tests provide a snapshot of past behavior, but they don’t dictate future actions.

Intentional experimentation with new behaviors can reshape these patterns. By consciously trying different responses in familiar situations, individuals can gather new data about alternative ways of showing up. The author’s colleague, for example, actively practiced asking more questions and reflecting his wife’s feelings to ensure understanding.
