Camila Giorgi: Tax Issues and Seizure as Tennis Star Remains Missing

Giorgi’s Instagram announcement comes amid news, rumors, and considerable uncertainty. The most pressing question remains: where is the tennis player? Is she in California? Argentina? The only certainties are contained in the collection order, which led a delegate of the Florence Revenue Agency, Paolo Bracciali, to notify her of a first garnishment on June 26th. This represents just the first installment of taxes due.
Reviewing the document detailing the garnishment, it’s revealed that Giorgi received her first notice from the tax authorities on April 7, 2023. The tennis player appears to have a history of non-compliance, having never filed a regular tax return.
Those in Calenzano, near Florence, where Giorgi resides and trains, say they haven’t seen her recently. Her close-knit family – father and coach Sergio, mother and stylist Claudia Fullone, and brothers Amadeus and Leandro – form a business around her. This family dynamic is now under scrutiny as officials note a concerning pattern: Sergio Giorgi also has outstanding tax liabilities. This lack of attention to tax obligations could worsen the situation for both of them.
Giorgi now faces a potential double legal battle. The announced retirement appears as a fragile attempt to quell the uproar. However, tax (and potential criminal) investigations will continue. She should explain rather than flee, cooperate instead of becoming unreachable. It’s also important to note that the athlete has another open case in Vicenza, where prosecutors have requested a trial for allegedly obtaining a false green pass without being vaccinated.
At this point, Giorgi risks two trials. The retirement announced Saturday evening on her social media profile appears as a fragile request for a truce. It is clear, however, that the tax investigations (and any potential criminal proceedings) against her will continue.
