Decodom Faces Survival Battle: Layoffs, Delays & Investor Talks
A significant challenge has emerged for one of Slovakia’s leading furniture manufacturers. Decodom, based in Topoľčany, is facing financial difficulties, with employees sent home on forced leave and wage payments delayed. The company is currently in negotiations with potential investors to secure its future, while simultaneously grappling with outstanding debts to the Social Insurance Agency totaling nearly €361,651 and disruptions to material supplies.
As reported by Aktuality.sk, one employee stated, “Currently, we have nothing to do. Today, perhaps 120 people are at home, being told to use their vacation days. I don’t think anyone will be here next week because no materials have arrived. No one knows what’s happening.”
Interim CEO Ivan Kopanický confirmed the company’s challenges, stating that wages were paid in two installments in December. He maintained that this was in accordance with employment contracts, as the payment deadline is by the complete of the month. Kopanický identified the payment of February wages as a priority and, at present, sees no reason why employees should not receive their full salaries on time.
Kopanický also stated on Wednesday that Decodom had instructed employees to take leave. “The situation is not simple, and given that we are a tiny open economy, it affects us even more. Consolidation measures are not helping us,” he admitted.

Negotiations with Investors Amid Employee Concerns
Kopanický confirmed that Decodom is in talks with several investors. According to one employee, there are three potential buyers, and a sale is expected to be finalized by the end of February. Management has declined to comment on the details, citing non-disclosure agreements with potential partners.
Tensions are rising among employees. They report being informed in November of a potential bankruptcy. October and November wages were paid without the variable component, which constitutes approximately nine percent of income. They were reassured when the variable component was included in the December payment.
“I am writing to you on behalf of several workers from production. We have small children, we have mortgages, and we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. We are disgusted with how things are run here,” one employee complained. Another employee noted that many workers had to draw on their savings to cover mortgage payments.

Customer Complaints Emerge
Delayed payments to material suppliers have slowed production, and this has been reflected externally. Complaints about long delivery times have appeared online. Some customers have reported waiting months for ordered furniture. “Before Christmas, there was a promotion for delivery by the holidays, but we didn’t have the materials. People canceled orders, we had to give them discounts just to take the kitchens,” another worker stated.

Kopanický confirmed that they had to renegotiate cooperation with some suppliers and that deliveries had slowed down, but described the situation as more or less stabilized. Decodom experienced a similar crisis during the pandemic in 2020 when it faced the threat of massive job losses. After reorganization, the company was able to stabilize. Today, however, it faces another test, and the direction the company will take will become clear in the coming period.
- Decodom is a traditional Slovak company engaged in the production and sale of furniture, with a history spanning over 70 years.
- It is one of the leading and largest manufacturers of kitchen furniture in Slovakia. It is also the largest Slovak exporter of living room furniture.
- In addition to kitchen and living room furniture, it also manufactures furniture for bedrooms, children’s and student rooms, hallways, and offices.

Nie je týždňa aby nejaká firma nezkrachovala …takto vyzerá štát ktorý vytvára (ne)podnikateľské prostredie…o chvíľu tu budú iba korporaty ktoré nám ekonomiku nikdy neudržia !!!!
