Cargo Door Strikes Pedestrian in Kowloon City: Police Investigation Underway

A pedestrian was struck by an open cargo door of a moving truck in Kowloon City on March 12, 2026, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred as the truck was turning from Tang Wai Dao onto Yang Sung Street in the Big角咀 (Tai Kok Tsui) area. Police are currently attempting to locate the truck driver involved, according to reports from Star Island and on.cc East Net.

What Happened?

The incident unfolded around 12:05 PM on March 12th. A truck, while making a left turn, had its rear door fail to latch securely. As the vehicle proceeded onto Yang Sung Street, the open door swung outwards, striking a 62-year-old male pedestrian who was standing on the side of the road. Footage captured by a dashcam and circulating online shows the man being hit and falling to the ground. Remarkably, the pedestrian was able to obtain up on his own and did not appear to sustain serious injuries, according to initial reports. The truck driver, seemingly unaware of the incident, continued driving and turned onto Song Shue Street.

Separate Incident Involving Two Trucks

A separate, related incident occurred shortly after the initial event. At approximately 12:21 PM, a 50-year-old truck driver parked his vehicle on Yang Sung Street. While another 62-year-old truck driver was unloading cargo from a truck parked behind the first, the open door of the second truck was struck by a passing vehicle, causing it to collide with the unloading driver. The driver sustained injuries to his legs and shoulder and was treated by paramedics at the scene, but declined to be transported to a hospital. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are connected, and are seeking the driver of the truck involved in the initial pedestrian strike.

Dashcam Footage Captures the Moment

The incident was captured on a dashcam, and the footage has been widely shared on social media. The video shows the truck’s right rear door opening during the turn and striking the pedestrian. The truck continued on its route without stopping. Hong Kong 01 reported that the pedestrian appeared disoriented after being struck.

Police Investigation and Search for the Driver

Authorities were alerted to the second incident involving the two trucks at 12:21 PM. Police are currently investigating the cause of both incidents and are working to identify and locate the driver of the truck involved in the initial pedestrian strike. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.

What We Know vs. What Remains Unclear

Confirmed: A pedestrian was struck by an open cargo door on Yang Sung Street in Kowloon City. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. A second incident involving two trucks occurred shortly after, resulting in injuries to a 62-year-old driver. Police are investigating both incidents.

Unclear: The relationship between the two incidents has not been officially confirmed. The identity of the truck driver involved in the pedestrian strike remains unknown. The exact cause of the cargo door failing to latch securely is still under investigation. The extent of the damage to the vehicles involved in the second incident has not been detailed.

How Cargo Doors Should Be Secured

Properly securing cargo doors on trucks is crucial for public safety. Regulations typically require cargo doors to be equipped with functioning latches and locking mechanisms. Drivers are responsible for ensuring that doors are securely closed before operating the vehicle. Failure to do so can result in significant fines and legal repercussions, as well as posing a serious risk of injury or death to pedestrians and other road users.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and driver responsibility.
