Trump Announces Iran Strikes After Khamenei Reportedly Killed

Trump Announces Iran Strikes After Khamenei Reportedly Killed

March 1, 2026 Ananya Mittal - World Editor News

Tehran, Iran – Sunday, March 1, 2026 – Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died following a series of US-Israeli strikes targeting Iranian installations, state media reported. The announcement comes after days of escalating tensions and a large-scale American military operation launched against the country.

Former US President Donald Trump was quick to react to the news, stating on his social media platform, “Khamenei, one of the most evil figures in history, is dead.” He further claimed the death represented “justice served not only to the Iranian people, but as well to all great Americans and all those, in many countries around the world, who have been killed or maimed by Khamenei.”

Trump asserted that, “thanks to our close cooperation with Israel, (Khamenei) and the other Iranian leaders killed with him were unable to do anything.” He characterized the development as “the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to take back their country.”

The former US President also indicated that intensive and precise bombardments would continue “throughout the week or as long as necessary to achieve our goal of PEACE THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND, IN FACT, IN THE WORLD ENTIRE!”

Prior to the announcement of Khamenei’s death, Trump had announced the launch of a “major” US military operation against Iranian facilities. In a video posted on his social media account, he stated, “The American military has launched large-scale military operations in Iran,” specifying that these strikes were intended to “defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”

Trump also vowed to “razor” Iran’s missile industry and “annihilate their navy,” alleging that Iran had refused to reach an agreement with the United States that would have averted war.

The US military’s Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that US and Israeli strikes within Iran targeted facilities associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, air defense capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields. According to Centcom, following the “first wave” of strikes conducted by the US and its partners, “Centcom forces successfully repelled hundreds of Iranian attacks using missiles and drones.”

Centcom further stated, “No casualties or combat injuries have been reported on the American side. Damage to US facilities has been minimal and has not impacted operations.”

The strikes represent a significant escalation in the long-running tensions between Iran and the United States and Israel. While the specific details of the operation remain fluid, the targeting of key Iranian military infrastructure suggests a deliberate attempt to degrade the country’s offensive capabilities. The involvement of Israel, publicly acknowledged by Trump, underscores the close coordination between the two allies on Iran policy.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been the Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. He held ultimate authority over Iran’s domestic and foreign policies, and was a staunch critic of both the United States and Israel. His death creates a power vacuum within the Iranian political system, the implications of which are currently unclear.

The timing of these events is particularly sensitive, occurring against a backdrop of regional instability and ongoing conflicts. The potential for retaliatory strikes by Iran or its proxies raises concerns about a wider escalation of violence in the Middle East. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for restraint and a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.

The US justification for the military action centers on the perceived threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missile program and its support for regional militant groups. Washington has long accused Tehran of destabilizing the region through its proxy networks in countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. The Trump administration’s decision to launch a large-scale military operation suggests a shift in strategy, moving beyond sanctions and diplomatic pressure to a more direct confrontation.

The impact of Khamenei’s death and the subsequent military strikes on the Iranian population remains to be seen. While Trump characterized the development as an opportunity for the Iranian people to “take back their country,” the immediate consequences are likely to be increased instability and economic hardship. The future of Iran’s nuclear program, already a source of international concern, is also uncertain.

The coming days will be critical in determining whether the current escalation can be contained or whether it will spiral into a broader conflict. The international community’s response, particularly the role of major powers such as China and Russia, will be crucial in shaping the outcome. The situation demands careful diplomacy and a commitment to de-escalation to prevent further loss of life and regional instability.
