Trump Neck Redness: Doctor Explains Skin Treatment

Trump Neck Redness: Doctor Explains Skin Treatment

March 3, 2026 Ananya Mittal - World Editor News

A rash appearing on the right side of President Donald Trump’s neck sparked speculation on social media, prompting a statement from his physician. Dr. Sean Barbabella attributed the discoloration to a cream being used as a “preventative skin treatment.”

According to a statement provided to CNN, Dr. Barbabella explained, “President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment. The President has been applying the treatment for one week and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks.”

Dr. Barbabella did not elaborate on the reason for the skin treatment, and the White House has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the President’s condition. The rash was visible during a Medal of Honor ceremony earlier on March 2, 2026, extending above the collar of his shirt and stopping just under his ear.

The incident comes as the 79-year-old President, the oldest to assume the office, has also faced questions regarding periodic bruising on the backs of his hands. Trump has attributed this to frequent handshaking and a higher-than-recommended daily dose of aspirin, which he says increases his susceptibility to bruising.

What we have is not the first time questions have been raised about President Trump’s health. Earlier this year, concerns emerged following reports of doctors’ visits and speculation about whether he had fallen asleep during public appearances. Trump dismissed these concerns in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, attributing the bruising to his aspirin regimen and asserting he has ample energy. He also claimed to have “aced” his “third straight” cognitive test in a post on Truth Social.

Dr. Sean Barbabella was appointed to oversee President Trump’s care in March 2026. He previously specialized in combat trauma and emergency care while serving in the Navy. He has consistently defended Trump’s medical evaluations, describing them as routine screening, and care. Barbabella is the latest in a series of personal physicians who have publicly affirmed Trump’s good health and cognitive function.

Prior to Barbabella, Dr. Ronny Jackson served as Trump’s personal physician, having previously held the same role under President Barack Obama. Jackson became a close personal advisor to Trump after delivering a favorable assessment of his “incredible genes” during a press conference.

The latest health-related attention comes as President Trump is navigating a demanding campaign schedule. The visibility of the neck rash and the ongoing scrutiny of his overall health are likely to remain points of public interest as the election cycle progresses. The White House’s limited response to questions about the treatment is also notable, potentially fueling further speculation.

While Dr. Barbabella has characterized the rash as a result of a preventative treatment and the President’s overall health as good, the incident underscores the intense public focus on the health of any leader, particularly one who is already the oldest person to hold the office. The combination of age, visible physical indicators, and past health disclosures inevitably invites scrutiny, especially in the context of a high-profile political campaign.

The use of preventative skin treatments is not uncommon, and the redness associated with such treatments is often temporary. However, the fact that the condition is visible and has prompted a public explanation from the President’s physician highlights the sensitivity surrounding the health of world leaders and the public’s desire for transparency.
