AEW Trios Championships: The Don Callis Family Wins Gold!
El Paso, TX – The Don Callis Family are the new AEW World Trios Champions, capitalizing on chaos and interference to dethrone Hangman Page, Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight in the main event of Wednesday’s “Dynamite” at the Don Haskins Center. The victory for Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada, and Mark Davis came after a frantic match filled with back-and-forth action and a crucial assist from MJF.
The match began with a chaotic brawl, quickly escalating into a quick-paced contest. Bailey and Fletcher exchanged impressive athleticism early on, with Bailey executing a hurricanrana. However, Davis quickly turned the tide, delivering a punch and a knee drop. Okada entered the fray, utilizing slams and back sentons, before tagging in Fletcher, who continued the assault on Bailey. A brief rally from Bailey saw him attempt an inside cradle, but Fletcher maintained control.
Hangman Page entered the match to a significant reaction, immediately launching into action with his signature springboard lariat to Okada. A fall-away slam to Fletcher followed, and Page connected with a slingshot crossbody to Okada on the floor. A tag to Bailey and then Knight saw Jet Speed Rodeo begin to build momentum, executing a double team hip toss and a series of impressive maneuvers, including a running UFO splash from Knight and a basement lariat from Page. The champions appeared to be in control, mounting a synchronized attack.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Fletcher grabbed Knight mid-air and drove him ribs-first into the barricade, while Okada simultaneously rammed Hangman into the same barricade. This set the stage for a commercial break, leaving the fate of the titles hanging in the balance.
Upon returning from the break, Page and Bailey found themselves isolated on the outside, while Knight was subjected to a triple-team attack in the ring. Okada delivered a dropkick and went for the pin, but Bailey broke it up, sending Fletcher to the outside. Okada followed with an elbow to Bailey, but Knight quickly responded with a dropkick. Bailey and Fletcher tagged in, with Bailey dropping Fletcher with a moonsault to the floor.
Back in the ring, Bailey continued his offensive, delivering a missile dropkick and a series of round kicks to Fletcher. He then caused Davis to senton onto Fletcher, followed by a kick. Fletcher retaliated with a kick to Bailey’s face, but Bailey countered with a PK. Okada attempted to break up a cover, but Bailey kicked him in the head. The action continued with Page and Davis trading shots, Page landing an enzuigiri and following with a Deadeye for a near fall, broken up by Fletcher.
The finish came after a sequence that saw Fletcher kick Bailey in the face, only for Bailey to respond with a reverse hurricanrana. Bailey flipped onto Fletcher on the outside, while Page delivered lariats to Davis. Knight tagged in, and as Page prepared to enter the ring, MJF intervened, pulling him down and striking him. Okada then seized the opportunity, dropping Knight with the Rainmaker, and Davis followed up with a piledriver to secure the victory and the AEW World Trios Championships.
The interference by MJF proved to be the decisive factor, echoing earlier events on the reveal where he successfully defended his AEW World Championship against Kevin Knight. That match itself was a compelling contest, with Knight demonstrating impressive athleticism and pushing MJF to his limits. MJF ultimately prevailed with the Heatseeker piledriver, but not before Knight nearly secured the win with his UFO splash, momentarily disrupted by MJF kicking the referee into the ropes.
Earlier in the evening, Hangman Page had issued a challenge to MJF, vowing to teach him a lesson at Revolution. Page emphasized his willingness to risk everything for the opportunity, stating he would abandon his principles if necessary to achieve victory in their Texas Death match. While MJF initially appeared to accept the challenge, he ultimately allowed The Don Callis Family to attack Page from behind, setting the stage for the trios title match and ultimately leading to the championship change.
The night similarly saw the debut of David Finlay and The IInspiration, adding further intrigue to the AEW roster. Swerve Strickland also made a statement, positioning himself as a dangerous contender. However, the night ultimately belonged to The Don Callis Family, who, with a little help from MJF, have claimed the AEW World Trios Championships.
