Claro Colombia Named Official Broadcaster of National Soccer Teams OR Claro Colombia Secures Colombian National Soccer Team Broadcast Rights
Claro Colombia has secured the broadcasting rights for all Colombian national soccer teams, forging a latest partnership with the Colombian Football Federation (FCF). The agreement encompasses all levels of national representation – men’s, women’s, youth and futsal – with Claro committing to leverage its technological infrastructure to enhance the viewing experience for fans across the country.
Rodrigo de Gusmao, president of Claro Colombia, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “For more than three decades, we have worked to connect Colombians, and today we want to be alongside the emotion that unites the country the most. The national team is our flag to the world, and we want to be with every goal, celebration, and moment that makes Colombia vibrate.”
This deal marks a shift in the broadcasting landscape for Colombian soccer, as Claro Colombia replaces Movistar, previously owned by Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica. Movistar’s withdrawal followed its acquisition by Latin American telecoms firm Millicom, signaling a broader restructuring of Telefonica’s presence in Colombia, with the Movistar brand set to merge with Millicom’s Tigo brand.
Ramón Jesurun, president of FCF, welcomed Claro as a partner, highlighting the company’s extensive national coverage. “Claro is currently the telecommunications company with the widest coverage in the country, and we are honored to have them join our family of commercial partners as an official partner of the Colombian national teams, a group that includes some of Colombia’s most prestigious brands,” he said. “We are confident that this will be a long-term relationship that will generate significant benefits for Claro, the Federation, and, of course, all Colombians who support and feel for our national teams.”
The timing of this agreement is particularly noteworthy as the Colombian men’s team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico – the latter being the home market for America Movil, Claro Colombia’s parent company. Colombia secured automatic qualification for the tournament by finishing third in the South American qualifying section, surpassing established soccer nations like Brazil.
Colombia’s World Cup journey will begin in Group K, currently comprised of Portugal and Uzbekistan, with the final qualifying team yet to be determined. Whereas Claro has secured the rights to broadcast the national teams, the broadcast rights for the World Cup tournament itself are held by DirecTV, which has exclusive rights to all 104 matches in the country. Free-to-air broadcasters Caracol and RCN will also air select matches, alongside Win Sports, which acquired a package of 25 matches last November.
Beyond the men’s World Cup, Claro Colombia’s sponsorship extends to a busy schedule for all Colombian national teams. This includes participation in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland and the CONMEBOL U-17 Championships for both men and women, as well as qualifying campaigns for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This comprehensive commitment underscores Claro’s dedication to supporting the growth of soccer at all levels within Colombia.
Claro joins a prestigious roster of FCF sponsors, including Aguila, Adidas, BetPlay, Inter Rapidisimo, Avianca, Bancolombia, and Ara, further solidifying its position as a key partner in the development and promotion of Colombian soccer. The partnership aims to provide enhanced digital experiences for fans, leveraging Claro’s technological capabilities to connect them with the national teams and the sport they love.
