The second-place finish at Utica marks the conclusion of the Bombers’ regular season. The team now prepares to compete at the NCGA East Region Championships hosted by Rhode Island College next weekend. This upcoming competition represents a crucial step for Ithaca as they aim to qualify for the NCGA National Championships.
Grace Murray’s consistent performance throughout the meet, highlighted by her leading scores on both floor exercise and vault, underscores her importance to the Ithaca College gymnastics team. Her 9.850 on floor and 9.700 on vault were key contributions to the Bombers’ overall score.
Jillian Freyman also delivered a strong performance, particularly on the floor exercise with a 9.825, demonstrating her ability to contribute consistently to the team’s success. The floor exercise clearly emerged as Ithaca’s strongest event, with multiple gymnasts achieving high scores.
The uneven bars presented a clear area for improvement for the Bombers, as their score of 45.675 was the lowest of the four events. While Mya John’s 9.400 was a solid individual performance, the team as a whole will likely focus on refining their routines on this apparatus in preparation for the regional championships.
Camden Contakos’s debut routine on the balance beam, scoring a 9.150, provides a positive note as the team heads into the postseason. Her successful first performance could provide a boost in confidence and contribute to the team’s depth on the beam.
The NCGA East Region Championships will be a significant test for Ithaca College. The competition will feature some of the top gymnastics programs in the region, and the Bombers will demand to deliver strong performances across all four events to secure a qualifying spot for the national championships. The team’s ability to build on their strengths, particularly on the floor exercise, and address their weaknesses, such as on the uneven bars, will be critical to their success.
