For nearly three decades, Parish held the mark. Now, it belongs to James, a player synonymous with the “King” moniker and accumulating records throughout his illustrious career. The achievement underscores not just longevity, but sustained excellence at the highest level of professional basketball.
“I think he understands the importance of his position,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said . “And he talks all the time about not cheating the game and recognizing that he is one of the all-time greats. With that comes a lot of responsibility, and he does everything he can to live up to that responsibility.”
This latest milestone adds to an already staggering list of NBA records held by James. He currently leads the league in points scored, minutes played, field goals made, and field goals attempted. He also holds the record for most seasons played (23), All-Star selections (22), and All-NBA team selections (21).
The significance of James’s durability and commitment was not lost on his opponent. “You just have to absolutely respect his level of competitive spirit,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He’s competing against not only the entire league, but he’s also competing against Father Time — and he’s giving Father Time hell.”

“No player is better deserving to break that Ironman record, that 1,611 games played record, than LeBron,” Parish told Sirius NBA Radio earlier this week. “He deserves it, in my opinion.”
