Markelle Fultz Signs 10-Day Contract with Toronto Raptors | NBA News

Markelle Fultz Signs 10-Day Contract with Toronto Raptors | NBA News

March 24, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

Toronto Raptors fans have a familiar face returning to the court, albeit on a temporary basis. Former No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Markelle Fultz is set to sign a 10-day contract with the team, the Raptors announced Monday, March 23, 2026.

The move comes as the Raptors navigate a crowded Eastern Conference playoff picture, currently battling the Hawks, 76ers, Magic, Heat, and Hornets for positioning to avoid the play-in tournament. Adding Fultz, even for a short stint, provides a potential boost in depth and versatility as the team pushes towards securing a top-six seed.

Fultz, now 27, last saw NBA action during the 2024-25 season, appearing in 21 games for the Sacramento Kings. Prior to that, he spent several seasons with the Orlando Magic, where he arguably showcased the most consistent form of his career. His best statistical season came in 2022-23, averaging 14 points and 5.7 assists per game whereas shooting an impressive 51.4% from the field.

Yet, Fultz’s career has been significantly defined by injury setbacks. Drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017, he struggled to find consistent playing time and form in his first two seasons, appearing in fewer than 20 games each year. A mysterious shoulder issue derailed his shooting mechanics, casting a long shadow over his early potential.

This season, Fultz has been honing his skills with the Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League affiliate. He was claimed by the Raptors 905 from waivers, bringing nine years of NBA experience to the developmental league. While with the Kings last season, he averaged 2.9 points, 1.0 rebound, and 1.3 assists in 8.8 minutes per contest. The Raptors 905 stint provided a platform for Fultz to regain rhythm and demonstrate his capabilities to NBA scouts, ultimately leading to this 10-day contract.

The Raptors’ decision to sign Fultz is partially influenced by a recent injury to Immanuel Quickley, who was ruled out of Monday’s game with a foot injury. This creates an immediate require for backcourt depth, and Fultz offers a potentially impactful solution, even if only for a limited time. The team is clearly hoping he can provide a spark, particularly on the defensive conclude, where he has reportedly developed into a strong contributor.

Fultz’s journey to this point has been one of considerable adversity. Once heralded as a potential superstar, his career has been marked by challenges and setbacks. The 76ers selected him ahead of players like Jayson Tatum, a decision that has been widely scrutinized in retrospect. Despite the difficulties, Fultz has continued to pursue opportunities to return to the NBA, demonstrating a resilience that has earned him respect throughout the league.

His career statistics reflect a player with considerable potential, averaging 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 steals across 255 career games (164 starts) with the 76ers, Magic, and Kings. His collegiate career at the University of Washington was also highly impressive, where he averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in his single season, earning First Team All-Pac-12 honors.

The 10-day contract provides Fultz with a crucial opportunity to prove his worth and potentially earn a longer-term deal with the Raptors or another NBA team. It’s a low-risk, high-reward move for Toronto, allowing them to assess his current form and fit within their system. For Fultz, it’s a chance to reignite his career and demonstrate that he can still contribute at the highest level.

The Raptors’ playoff aspirations hinge on their ability to maintain consistency and health down the stretch. While Fultz’s impact remains to be seen, his arrival adds another layer of intrigue to an already competitive Eastern Conference race. The team will be closely monitoring his performance over the next 10 days, hoping he can provide a valuable contribution as they strive to secure a favorable playoff position.
