Mikaela Shiffrin Wins Åre Women’s Slalom – Results & Recap

March 15, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

ÅRE, Sweden – Mikaela Shiffrinová continued her dominant form, securing her 109th World Cup victory in the slalom at Åre on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The American finished with a time of 1:43.35, besting Germany’s Emma Aicherová by 0.94 seconds and Switzerland’s Wendy Holdenerová by 1.00 seconds.

Shiffrinová, already assured of the slalom crystal globe, demonstrated her consistency and skill throughout both runs. She established a 0.51-second lead after the first run, a margin she skillfully defended in the second, ultimately finishing with a comfortable victory. This win marks her 72nd slalom victory in World Cup competition and her eighth of the current season. Her only defeat in a slalom this season came at Kranjska Gora, where Camille Rastová of Switzerland emerged victorious.

Aicherová’s second-place finish represents her best result in a slalom event, showcasing her continued progress and potential. Holdenerová rounded out the podium, solidifying her position as a consistent contender in the discipline.

The race also saw a notable performance from Czech Republic’s Martina Dubovská, who recorded the fastest time in the second run. This propelled her up the standings to 11th place a significant improvement from her 27th-place finish after the first run. Dubovská’s impressive second run time was 2.36 seconds behind Shiffrinová’s combined time.

The top ten finishers included Katharina Truppeová of Austria (+1.09), Paula Moltzanová of the United States (+1.83), Dženifera Ģērmaneová of Latvia (+1.85), Cornelia Öhlundová of Sweden (+1.90), Lara Colturiová of Albania (+2.09) and Hanna Aronssonová-Elfmanová of Sweden (+2.19). Camille Rastová of Switzerland finished tenth, 2.29 seconds off the pace.

Shiffrinová’s victory comes on the heels of her gold medal performance in slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, further cementing her status as a dominant force in the sport. With 140 points separating her from Aicherová in the overall standings, Shiffrinová faces a challenging but attainable goal of securing the overall World Cup title. As Shiffrinová noted after the race, Aicherová’s strength in speed events poses a significant challenge in the final race in Lillehammer.

“Before the start of the race, I was very nervous. It’s an essential victory for me. I put in great runs, but getting the big globe will be even harder. Emma is very strong in the speed disciplines this season,” Shiffrinová said.

Several racers did not finish the second run, including Katie Hensienová of the USA, Leona Popovićová of Croatia, and Zrinka Ljutićová of Croatia. The race showcased a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talents, highlighting the competitive depth within the women’s slalom circuit.

The World Cup now moves to Lillehammer, Norway, for the final race of the season, where Shiffrinová will aim to solidify her lead in the overall standings and potentially add another crystal globe to her impressive collection. The competition promises to be fierce, with Aicherová poised to challenge Shiffrinová’s dominance, particularly in the speed events.
