Myles Garrett Cites Ninth Speeding Ticket Since 2017
Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns’ star defensive finish, is facing yet another speeding citation in Northeast Ohio. The incident, which occurred on February 21st, involved Garrett allegedly driving 94 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 71 in Wayne County, according to records obtained by local news outlets. This marks at least the ninth time Garrett has been cited for speeding in Ohio since being drafted by the Browns in 2017.
The citation from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office details that Garrett was driving a 2024 Porsche around 1:35 a.m. The timing suggests he was returning to the Cleveland area after attending a college basketball game between Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) in Oxford earlier that evening. The deputy who issued the ticket noted that Garrett was “kind and cooperative” during the stop.
Garrett has the option of appearing in Wayne County Municipal Court on March 10th or simply paying the fine, which is expected to exceed $100. This latest incident comes less than eight months after he received another speeding ticket in Strongsville, Ohio, in August 2025, where he was clocked driving 100 mph in a 60 mph zone shortly after the Browns’ preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Prior to that, Garrett’s history of speeding violations includes instances of being pulled over multiple times within a short period, including being clocked at 120 mph and 105 mph on separate occasions. He has likewise faced charges related to reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
The repeated speeding incidents are particularly noteworthy given a serious single-vehicle accident Garrett was involved in on September 26, 2022. His Porsche went off the road and rolled multiple times, resulting in injuries to both Garrett and a passenger. He was subsequently cited for failing to control his vehicle due to unsafe speeds on a wet roadway.
Following the 2022 crash, Garrett expressed a commitment to more cautious driving. “This will be definitely a wake-up call for me, just strive to be smart overall with driving,” he said at the time. “Don’t take anything for granted. Be grateful that I’m still able to be here and just take my time.”
Despite the recurring off-field issues, Garrett remains a dominant force on the field. The 30-year-old recently earned his second NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, recognizing his performance in the 2025 season. He set a new NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks, achieved during the Browns’ Week 18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Since entering the league in 2017, Garrett has amassed 125.5 sacks, the most in the NFL over that span. This places him in a tie for 28th all-time in NFL sack totals, alongside Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney. Garrett is currently playing under a four-year, $160 million contract extension he signed last offseason, solidifying his position as a cornerstone player for the Browns.
The frequency of these speeding citations raises questions about a pattern of behavior, despite the serious consequences of his 2022 accident and his subsequent public statements. Although Garrett’s on-field performance continues to be exceptional, the repeated legal issues present a continuing distraction for both the player and the organization.
