Opetaia vs Glanton: Zuffa Boxing 04 Results & Highlights | March 8, 2026

Opetaia vs Glanton: Zuffa Boxing 04 Results & Highlights | March 8, 2026

March 8, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

Jai Opetaia defeated Brandon Glanton via unanimous decision on March 8, 2026, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, to win the inaugural Zuffa Boxing World Cruiserweight Championship. However, the victory comes with a caveat: Opetaia will be stripped of his IBF cruiserweight title as a result of participating in the Zuffa Boxing event.

The event, Zuffa Boxing 04, saw Opetaia, previously undefeated with a record of 29-0 and 23 knockouts, face Glanton (21-3, 18 KOs). While Opetaia’s IBF title wasn’t officially at stake due to the IBF’s refusal to sanction a voluntary defense against Glanton, the bout carried significant weight as the first championship contest under the Zuffa Boxing banner. The IBF’s decision to strip Opetaia underscores the ongoing tension between traditional sanctioning bodies and Zuffa Boxing’s ambition to reshape the sport by prioritizing matchups between top fighters, regardless of sanctioning body affiliation.

The undercard featured an impressive performance from Emiliano Alvarado, who secured a unanimous decision victory over Erick Rosado. The 18-year-old Mexican featherweight followed up his win at Zuffa Boxing 03 with another decisive victory, showcasing his potential as a rising star in the sport. The judges scored the bout 59-54, 59-54, and 59-54 in Alvarado’s favor. Rosado, a 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic, started strongly, displaying flashy combinations in the opening round. However, Alvarado adjusted his strategy, increasing the intensity and targeting Rosado’s body with powerful left hooks. A significant left hook in the second round sent Rosado to the canvas, shifting the momentum in Alvarado’s favor and ultimately leading to his unanimous decision win after six rounds.

The lead-up to the main event was marked by controversy surrounding Opetaia’s IBF title. The IBF had issued an ultimatum, demanding Opetaia choose between defending his championship and competing for the Zuffa Boxing title. By choosing to fight Glanton under the Zuffa Boxing banner, Opetaia forfeited his IBF title. Dana White, UFC CEO and Zuffa Boxing promoter, expressed his disbelief at the IBF’s actions, stating he would address the situation during the Zuffa Boxing press conference. White has consistently emphasized Zuffa Boxing’s commitment to matching the best fighters against each other, irrespective of sanctioning body constraints.

Glanton entered the fight with a somewhat checkered recent record, having suffered defeats to David Light and Soslan Asbarov before a three-fight win streak was interrupted by a loss to Chris Billam-Smith. He rebounded with a sixth-round win over Marcus Browne in October, setting the stage for his challenge against Opetaia. Opetaia, meanwhile, had been actively defending his IBF cruiserweight title throughout 2025, including a Round 8 knockout of Huseyin Cinkara in December.

The event began with prelims at 6pm ET/3pm PT, followed by the main card at 9pm ET/6pm PT, and was broadcast live on Paramount+. The main event ring walks were anticipated around 11pm ET. The outcome of the fight and the subsequent stripping of Opetaia’s IBF title represent a significant moment in the evolving landscape of professional boxing. Zuffa Boxing’s challenge to the established order, and the willingness of fighters like Opetaia to align with this new model, are poised to reshape the sport’s power dynamics and potentially lead to more compelling matchups in the future.

While Opetaia’s focus remains on unifying all recognized world championships, the loss of his IBF title presents a new hurdle. The Zuffa Boxing World Cruiserweight Championship, however, provides a new benchmark for success within this emerging boxing ecosystem. The victory solidifies Opetaia’s position as a leading cruiserweight and sets the stage for future challenges under the Zuffa Boxing banner. Alvarado’s win on the undercard further highlights the potential for new talent to emerge within the Zuffa Boxing framework, offering a platform for rising stars to compete and gain recognition.
