Spring Breakout 2026: Top Prospects Shine in MLB Showcase – Scores & Results

March 22, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

Spring Breakout, MLB’s showcase of top prospects, concluded its third iteration on Sunday, offering a glimpse into the future of baseball. This year’s event, running from Thursday through Sunday, featured 54 of MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects and over 500 players from teams’ Top 30 lists, all vying for attention on MLB’s digital platforms and MLB Network.

The weekend’s action was packed with standout performances and intriguing matchups. Saturday’s games saw the White Sox fall to the Dodgers 7-5, the Phillies edge past the Blue Jays 5-4, the Braves dominate the Yankees 8-3, and the Diamondbacks cruise to a 10-3 victory over the Rockies. Braden Montgomery, recently acquired by Chicago in a trade with Boston, showcased his potential for the White Sox, entering the weekend as MLB’s No. 36 prospect. The Dodgers, however, proved too strong, led by top prospects Josue De Paula (MLB No. 15) and Zyhir Hope (MLB No. 27).

In a tight contest, the Phillies secured a victory over the Blue Jays thanks to contributions from Aroon Escobar and Felix Reyes, both of whom homered early in the game. Gage Stanifer pitched three hitless innings for Toronto, but ultimately couldn’t contain the Phillies’ offense. The Braves’ victory over the Yankees was highlighted by a two-run homer from teenager John Gil, while Garrett Baumann delivered a perfect three innings of relief, striking out five. The Diamondbacks’ offense exploded, led by Jose Fernandez, who tied a Spring Breakout record with three hits and three RBIs.

Sunday’s action featured a Brewers victory over the Athletics, capping off the weekend. Milwaukee, boasting baseball’s top-ranked farm system, showcased Jesús Made, MLB’s No. 3 prospect. The game provided a platform for Jamie Arnold, a left-hander, to make his professional debut. Earlier in the weekend, the Royals defeated the Rangers 9-7, the Orioles topped the Red Sox 3-1, the Pirates edged the Tigers 8-7, and the Cardinals bested the Nationals 9-8.

The Royals’ victory over the Rangers was fueled by a three-run homer from Blake Mitchell (MLB No. 75) and strong pitching from Justin Lamkin, who struck out six batters over three hitless innings. The Orioles’ Seth Hernandez impressed with a dominant performance, striking out a Spring Breakout-record eight batters in three innings. Trey Gibson also contributed with three scoreless innings and two strikeouts. The Pirates’ win over the Tigers featured a 102.4 mph fastball from Seth Hernandez and a grand slam from Tony Blanco Jr. The Cardinals rallied to defeat the Nationals, highlighted by a home run from Joshua Báez and a two-hit performance from JJ Wetherholt.

Throughout the event, several prospects demonstrated their potential to become future stars. Ethan Salas of the Padres showcased his all-around skills, hitting a three-run home run, stealing a base, and throwing out a runner attempting to steal. Héctor Rodríguez of the Reds drove in four runs, including a 411-foot grand slam. Gavin Fien of the Nationals had three hits and five RBIs. These performances, along with those of other top prospects, provided valuable insights for scouts and fans alike.

The Spring Breakout series continues to grow in popularity, offering a unique opportunity to witness the next generation of baseball talent. With all 16 games streamed live and blackout-free on MLB’s digital platforms, and seven games airing on MLB Network, the event reached a wide audience. The event’s success underscores the growing interest in prospect evaluation and the excitement surrounding the future of the game. This year’s event featured fourteen No. 1 prospects from their respective organizations, and another sixteen ranked No. 2, ensuring a high level of competition and intrigue.

The Brewers and Phillies each played two games during the event due to the odd number of teams participating in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. The event also provided a platform for players to showcase their skills against some of the best young talent in the country, offering a valuable experience for both players and evaluators. The focus on prospects allows teams to assess their development and potential, while also providing fans with a sneak peek at the stars of tomorrow.
