Tadeáš Růžička “Mawar” Released: Return to MMA Fights?

Tadeáš Růžička “Mawar” Released: Return to MMA Fights?

March 2, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

Tadeáš “Mawar” Růžička, the former Czech mixed martial artist, is a free man after serving a 17-month sentence, according to reports surfacing on Monday, March 2, 2026. The news, announced by Růžička himself via a social media post, signals a potential comeback for the controversial fighter.

Růžička’s incarceration stemmed from a series of violent incidents, most notably a 2024 assault on a man in Prague who intervened on behalf of a woman being harassed. He received a six-month sentence for that specific incident, added to an existing 11-month sentence for a prior attack, initially totaling 17 months. However, he was released after a shorter period, a detail confirmed by multiple Czech news outlets.

The 28-year-vintage Růžička, who previously held the title of “King of Oktagon Underground” up to 70kg in 2020, posted a video on Instagram declaring his freedom and stating he has a “clear head.” The video also showed visible physical changes, with observers noting he appears to have gained muscle mass during his time in prison. This physical transformation has fueled speculation about his immediate fighting future.

Prior to his legal troubles, Růžička boasted an impressive background in combat sports, including a junior world championship in Muaythai (IFMA, 2015), a K1 world championship (WAKO, 2016), and a professional Muaythai title in the Czech Republic (2017). He trained at Lanna Gym Praha and Reinders MMA, before being dismissed from Spejbl Gym Praha following a series of incidents. His career trajectory, however, was derailed by his involvement in multiple altercations.

The prospect of Růžička’s return to the fight game has already generated considerable buzz within the Czech MMA community. Promoters from both Clash and RFA have reportedly expressed interest in potentially collaborating with him, suggesting a possible path back to the ring or cage. While specific plans remain undisclosed, the fighter’s social media activity and the interest from promotions indicate a comeback is likely.

However, Růžička’s past actions continue to draw criticism. Online reactions to his release have been mixed, with some fans expressing support and anticipation for his return, while others remain critical of his history of violence. Comments on his social media posts reflect this divide, with some celebrating his freedom and others condemning his past behavior. One comment, highlighted in Super.cz, read, “Negramoti obhajujou fetku, co mlátí jen tak lidi na ulici,” (roughly translated as “Illiterates defend a drug addict who just beats up people in the street”).

Růžička’s MMA career began with a foundation in boxing and kickboxing, transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2020. He earned the nickname “Mawar” – Indonesian for “rose,” a playful reference to his surname, Růžička – around the time of the 2015 Muaythai World Championship. The moniker, a shortened form of “Mad Warrior,” became synonymous with his aggressive fighting style.

The timing of Růžička’s release coincides with preparations for March 7th’s OKTAGON 85 event, featuring bouts between Severino and Kakhorov, Eckerlin and Kohout, Frimpong and Jakobi, Ilbay and Hamerski, Bartl and Pfeifer, Walid and Sultani, Smolková and Egger, Wolf and Kalejaiye, Lemberanskij and Gunduz, Silva and Severino, and Obodozie and Hamras. While Růžička is not currently scheduled to compete on this card, his return to freedom adds another layer of intrigue to the Czech MMA scene.

Whether Růžička can successfully rehabilitate his image and rebuild his fighting career remains to be seen. His talent is undeniable, but his past actions will undoubtedly continue to follow him. The coming months will be crucial in determining his next steps and whether he can overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
