WWE Expands Netflix Partnership for PLEs in Germany & Austria | WrestleMania Streaming Details

WWE Expands Netflix Partnership for PLEs in Germany & Austria | WrestleMania Streaming Details

March 13, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

WWE’s expanding international partnership with Netflix takes another significant step forward, adding top-tier ‘premium live events’ (PLEs) to the streaming giant’s offerings in Germany and Austria. The move, building on an existing agreement that began in January 2024, will observe Netflix broadcast events like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Money in the Bank, alongside German-language commentary.

The rollout officially begins on April 18 with WrestleMania 42, the iconic annual event taking place in Las Vegas. Content migration to Netflix will be completed by April 1, but the WrestleMania broadcast marks the true launch of this expanded partnership. Future PLEs, including the May 31 Clash in Italy – a geographically advantageous event for European viewers – will also be available.

This expansion doesn’t alter the existing broadcast arrangements for WWE’s flagship weekly programming. Raw, SmackDown, and NXT will continue to air on BILD and ProSieben MAXX, the current linear broadcast partners. Netflix is specifically acquiring the rights to PLEs that were previously available through the WWE Network’s direct-to-consumer service.

The move effectively signals the complete of the WWE Network as a standalone service. WWE has already begun notifying subscribers that they must transition to Netflix to maintain access to WWE content. This phased approach, culminating in the complete shutdown of the WWE Network, reflects a strategic shift towards Netflix as the primary international distribution platform.

The initial Netflix-WWE agreement saw Netflix become the broadcaster of Monday Night Raw in numerous global territories, including the US and UK. This was subsequently extended to include Friday Night SmackDown and NXT outside of the domestic market. The addition of PLEs represents a natural progression of this partnership, consolidating WWE’s premium content under the Netflix umbrella internationally.

Netflix’s foray into sports broadcasting has gained considerable momentum over the past year. The streaming giant recently achieved record viewership numbers with its coverage of an NFL game on Christmas Day, December 25. The Detroit Lions versus Minnesota Vikings fixture drew an average of 27.5 million viewers in the US, becoming the most-streamed NFL game in US history.

The success of the NFL broadcast underscores Netflix’s growing ambition and capability in the sports arena. The platform’s ability to attract a massive audience for live sporting events demonstrates its potential to become a major player in the industry, challenging traditional broadcast models.

WrestleMania 42, set to feature CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, Jade Cargill, and Brock Lesnar, among others, is poised to be a key test of this expanded partnership. The event, held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, will be streamed live on Netflix internationally and on ESPN in the US. The international availability on Netflix significantly broadens the reach of WrestleMania, potentially attracting a new audience to the world of professional wrestling.

The addition of PLEs to Netflix’s WWE offerings provides a compelling value proposition for subscribers. The combination of weekly programming and high-profile events creates a comprehensive WWE experience, accessible on a single platform. This strategic move is likely to further solidify Netflix’s position as a leading provider of sports and entertainment content globally.

For WWE, the partnership with Netflix offers a stable and expansive distribution network, reaching millions of potential fans worldwide. The move allows WWE to focus on content creation and event production, while leveraging Netflix’s technological infrastructure and marketing expertise. The long-term implications of this partnership are significant, potentially reshaping the landscape of professional wrestling broadcasting internationally.
