Yeremay Trains with Deportivo La Coruña Squad in First Session of the Week

March 17, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

A new era is dawning for Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, as the Spanish club unveiled plans for its state-of-the-art Dépor Training Center on September 30, 2025. The ambitious project, designed by Populous, represents a significant investment of approximately €40 million and is slated for completion within two to three years.

The new facility isn’t simply an upgrade; it’s a reimagining of the club’s infrastructure, intended to serve as a unified hub for the men’s, women’s, and academy teams. As club president Carlos Escotet articulated, the center is envisioned as ‘the home of everything Deportivo’, a symbolic representation of the club’s aspirations to reclaim its position in the top flight of Spanish football.

The emphasis on youth development is central to the project’s philosophy. CEO Massimo Benassi underscored this point, stating that the youth academy is the backbone of the club. He further explained that it’s not merely a sporting commitment, but a long-term social, educational and economic investment crucial for the club’s sustainability and identity. This commitment is reflected in the center’s motto: Onde Nace o Futuro – Where the Future is Born.

The Dépor Training Center’s design prioritizes meeting the immediate and long-term needs of all teams within the organization. Populous, leveraging both its local expertise through Populous España and its global experience in designing high-performance centers, aims to create a complex that fosters talent and cultivates success. The unveiling event was attended by key figures including Escotet, Benassi, Jorge Betancor (Populous España’s managing director), Iván Sánchez (Dépor’s head of infrastructure), and first-team players Yeremay Hernández and Elena Vázquez.

Yeremay Hernández, a 23-year-old left winger currently playing for Deportivo La Coruña, was present at the unveiling, signaling the importance of player involvement in shaping the club’s future. Born on December 10, 2002, in Las Palmas, Spain, Hernández’s career trajectory has been marked by development within prominent youth academies. He began with UD Almenara and UD Las Palmas before joining Real Madrid’s La Fábrica in 2015 at the age of 12.

After two years with Real Madrid, Hernández moved to Deportivo La Coruña, signing his first professional contract with the club on December 11, 2018. He initially made his mark with the reserves, making his senior debut on December 13, 2020, in a Tercera División match against SD Fisterra. His first senior goal followed on March 7, 2021, equalizing for Fabril in a match against Polvorín FC.

Hernández’s breakthrough into the first team came on December 1, 2021, when he scored his team’s third goal in a 4–3 Copa del Rey victory over UCAM Murcia CF, coming on as a second-half substitute. He was officially promoted to the main squad on September 1, 2022, and further solidified his commitment by renewing his contract until 2026 on August 11, 2023.

Currently wearing the number 10 shirt for Deportivo La Coruña, Hernández has become a key player for the team, with 108 appearances and 27 goals as of November 26, 2025. He has also recently earned a call-up to the Spain U21 team, making two appearances as of October 16, 2024.

The Dépor Training Center’s development signifies more than just a physical upgrade. It represents a strategic investment in the future of Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, aiming to create a sustainable and successful club built on a foundation of youth development and a commitment to excellence. As President Escotet stated, the center will be a place where talent takes root, where the dreams of boys and girls initiate to grow, where every drop of sweat in training becomes the seed of tomorrow’s success.

Populous’s involvement brings a wealth of experience to the project, having designed hundreds of high-performance centers worldwide. The collaboration underscores Deportivo’s ambition to not only return to the top flight but to establish itself as a leading force in Spanish football for years to come.
