Cyberpunk 2077: No Further DLC or Expansions Planned

Cyberpunk 2077: No Further DLC or Expansions Planned

March 15, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

CD Projekt Red has affirmed that there are currently no plans for additional downloadable content or expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, despite ongoing speculation about a potential third DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The announcement came via the official Cyberpunk 2077 X (formerly Twitter) account in response to a fan inquiry about “secret new DLC,” effectively closing the door – for now – on further content additions to Night City.

Phantom Liberty as the Final Chapter?

The studio’s response was direct: “We have no plans for additional DLCs or expansions. If anything changes, we will inform you all!” This statement, even as definitive, isn’t entirely unprecedented. As noted by Push Square, CD Projekt Red has previously indicated it was finished with Cyberpunk 2077, only to later release updates and improvements. However, the current messaging suggests a more firm stance.

For players invested in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, this means the 2023 release of Phantom Liberty, alongside the base game, represents the complete experience available for the foreseeable future. The Ultimate Edition, which recently launched alongside the Switch 2, bundles both together, offering a comprehensive package for new and returning players. Nintendo Life’s review praised the port as “a superb port of an incredible RPG.”

Shifting Focus to Future Projects

CD Projekt Red’s decision to halt further Cyberpunk 2077 development aligns with its broader strategic direction. The company is currently focused on several ambitious projects, including the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which entered pre-production in May 2025. TechRadar reports that this sequel isn’t expected to arrive until at least 2030, indicating a long development cycle.

Beyond the Cyberpunk sequel, CD Projekt Red is too working on The Witcher 4, an action RPG codenamed Project Hadar and a separate multiplayer Witcher game, Project Sirius. These projects represent a significant investment in the company’s core franchises, suggesting a deliberate shift in resources away from continued support for Cyberpunk 2077.

The Curious Case of the Cancelled Cyberpunk DLC

The announcement regarding Cyberpunk 2077 also comes in the wake of reports about a previously planned expansion that was ultimately cancelled. Insider Gaming detailed rumors of a “Dune-style” location intended for this DLC, suggesting ambitious plans that never came to fruition. The reasons for the cancellation remain unclear, but it’s likely a combination of factors, including resource allocation and the desire to focus on future projects.

Witcher 3 DLC Rumors Persist

Interestingly, CD Projekt Red has remained conspicuously silent regarding rumors of a third DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While the company has firmly denied any further content for Cyberpunk 2077, it has not issued a similar statement about The Witcher 3. This has fueled speculation that a new expansion may still be in development, potentially arriving later this year. The lack of a clear denial, coupled with ongoing reports, keeps the possibility alive for fans of Geralt of Rivia.

The Development Pipeline and Resource Allocation

The decision to prioritize future projects over continued Cyberpunk 2077 support reflects a common strategy in the gaming industry. Maintaining and expanding existing games requires significant resources, and companies often choose to allocate those resources to new projects with greater potential for long-term revenue. In CD Projekt Red’s case, the Cyberpunk sequel and the new Witcher games represent the future of the studio, and it’s understandable that they would prioritize those projects.

However, the studio’s history with Cyberpunk 2077 is complex. The game’s initial launch was plagued with bugs and performance issues, leading to widespread criticism and a damaged reputation. CD Projekt Red spent considerable effort over the following years fixing these issues and improving the game’s overall quality. The release of Phantom Liberty was seen as a turning point, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to delivering on its initial vision.

What’s Next for Night City and Beyond?

While no new DLC or expansions are currently planned for Cyberpunk 2077, the game will likely continue to receive updates and bug fixes. CD Projekt Red has a track record of supporting its games even after the release of major expansions, and it’s reasonable to expect that they will continue to address any issues that arise. The focus, however, will undoubtedly be on the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and the new Witcher projects. The studio’s future appears bright, with a diverse portfolio of ambitious games in the pipeline. For now, players looking for new adventures in the Cyberpunk universe will have to wait for the next generation of content.
