Galaxy S24 One UI 8.5 Beta: Finally Rolling Out to Flagships & FE Models

Galaxy S24 One UI 8.5 Beta: Finally Rolling Out to Flagships & FE Models

March 19, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Samsung Galaxy S24 owners might finally have reason to celebrate as a potential One UI 8.5 Beta build has been spotted on Samsung’s test server. This marks the first indication that the flagship series, often trailing behind newer devices in update cycles, could soon receive the latest software enhancements. The news arrives as Samsung rolls out the stable One UI 8.5 version with the Galaxy S26 lineup and continues Beta testing with the Galaxy S25 series.

A Late, But Welcome Arrival?

Tipster Tarun Vats, known for accurately reporting on One UI updates, shared details of the discovered build on X (formerly Twitter) on March 19, 2026. The build versions identified are S928NKSU5ZZCB, S928NOKR5ZZCB and S928NKSU5DZCB. Vats’ post suggests a potential launch of the One UI 8.5 Beta program for the Galaxy S24 series in the near future. This comes after the initial release of One UI 8 with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 last month, as PhoneArena reported.

Interestingly, another user appears to have shared a screenshot indicating that the One UI 8.5 Beta might also extend to the Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy S25 FE models. Vats confirmed the discovery of build versions for these Fan Edition models: S731NKSU5ZZCB (S25 FE) and S721NKSUAZZCB (S24 FE).

What is One UI 8.5 and What Does it Offer?

One UI is Samsung’s custom Android skin, offering a unique user experience layered on top of the core operating system. Each iteration brings refinements to the interface, new features, and performance improvements. Although specific details of One UI 8.5 are still emerging, it’s expected to build upon the foundation laid by One UI 8, which focused on personalization and a more natural viewing experience, as Samsung initially announced with the Galaxy S24 series’ first update in February 2026. Expect enhancements to display customization, potentially further refining the viewing experience based on user preferences.

The Update Prioritization Puzzle

Samsung’s approach to One UI rollouts follows a predictable pattern: the latest generation of devices receives updates first, followed by previous-generation models. This tiered system is common in the Android ecosystem, allowing manufacturers to focus testing and optimization on the newest hardware. However, the delay in bringing One UI 8.5 to the Galaxy S24 series has prompted some discussion about the commitment to older flagship devices. The Galaxy S24, while still a powerful and capable phone, is now a generation behind, and some users experience the wait for timely updates is becoming increasingly noticeable.

Beyond the Flagship: Fan Edition Inclusion

The potential inclusion of the Galaxy S24 FE in the One UI 8.5 Beta program is a particularly welcome surprise. Fan Edition models typically receive updates slightly later than their flagship counterparts. Extending the Beta to the S24 FE suggests Samsung is broadening its testing efforts and demonstrating a commitment to providing a consistent software experience across its product lineup. The Galaxy S24 FE, offering a balance of features and affordability, remains a popular choice for many users, and keeping it up-to-date with the latest software is crucial for maintaining user satisfaction.

How Long is Too Long to Wait?

The question of update timelines is a recurring one in the Android world. While Samsung’s prioritization strategy is understandable, the length of the wait can be frustrating for users who expect timely software updates for their flagship devices. The Galaxy S24 is a premium device, and users have a reasonable expectation of receiving updates in a timely manner. The current situation highlights the require for Samsung to strike a balance between thorough testing and prompt delivery of software enhancements.

What’s Next for One UI 8.5?

The discovery of the Beta build is just the first step. Samsung will likely conduct extensive testing with Beta users to identify and fix any bugs or issues before releasing the stable version of One UI 8.5. The Beta program is expected to be available in the U.S., the UK, South Korea, and India, according to previous announcements. Following the Beta phase, Samsung will likely release a series of stable updates, gradually rolling them out to a wider audience. Users can expect further details on the rollout schedule as the Beta testing progresses. Keep an eye on Tarun Vats’ X feed for the latest updates and insights.
