Galaxy S26 & Buds4 Pro: First Impressions from Galaxy Unpacked 2026

Galaxy S26 & Buds4 Pro: First Impressions from Galaxy Unpacked 2026

March 2, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event this week unveiled the Galaxy S26 series and Galaxy Buds4, offering a first look at the company’s latest innovations. Tech reviewer Parker Burton, after getting hands-on time with the new devices, shared his initial impressions with Samsung Newsroom, highlighting both the incremental improvements and the genuinely exciting new features. The S26 Ultra, in particular, is positioned as a flagship device aiming to refine the smartphone experience, while the Buds4 series focuses on design and connectivity enhancements.

A Refined, Well-Rounded Experience: The Galaxy S26 Ultra

Burton, a self-described Samsung enthusiast, emphasized the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s position as a consistently strong performer. “I attempt out so many phones, and Galaxy S Ultra devices are always my favorite. I love seeing the improvements. Galaxy S26 Ultra does so many things well. To me, it’s the most well-rounded phone experience on the market,” he stated. This sentiment suggests Samsung isn’t aiming for radical reinvention with the S26 Ultra, but rather a continuation of its established strengths. The device features a 6.9-inch AMOLED QHD+ display with an adaptive refresh rate, available in colors like Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue, and White, with online exclusives Silver Shadow and Pink Gold. PCMag notes the S26 series features a more rounded, slimmer design, a departure from the blockier aesthetic of previous Ultra models since the S22.

Beyond the visual refinements, Burton pointed to practical improvements like faster charging speeds as a key benefit. The S26 Ultra boasts Super Fast Charging 3.0, capable of reaching 75% charge in 30 minutes with 60W charging, alongside 25W wireless charging. While Samsung hasn’t specified the exact wireless charging time, the faster wired charging addresses a common user pain point. He also highlighted Horizon Lock, a new video stabilization feature, as particularly useful for content creators and anyone filming on the move. This feature maintains a level shot even with phone movement, potentially improving video quality in dynamic situations.

Privacy Display: A Novel Approach to Screen Protection

One of the most intriguing features of the Galaxy S26 Ultra is its new Privacy Display. Burton, who has previously expressed dissatisfaction with traditional privacy screen protectors, was initially skeptical. “Yeah, I’ve been pretty vocal that I am not really a fan of traditional privacy screen protectors. To me, the purpose of a nice AMOLED display is the viewing angles.” Still, he was won over by the level of control offered by Samsung’s implementation. Unlike traditional protectors that degrade image quality, the S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display can be toggled on and off and selectively applied to specific content on the screen, preserving viewing angles while offering privacy when needed. This built-in solution addresses a common trade-off between screen protection and visual fidelity.

Samsung’s Direction: Building on a Strong Foundation

Burton believes the Galaxy S26 series signals Samsung’s continued leadership in the smartphone market. “I think there’s no question Samsung is at the forefront. They continue to build really solid devices that anyone should be comfortable buying.” He specifically praised Samsung’s display technology, citing its consistent quality and innovation, from visual performance to foldable screens. The Privacy Display, he argues, is a prime example of Samsung pushing boundaries and offering something genuinely new. Samsung’s commitment to display technology is a long-standing strength, and the S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display builds on that legacy. Samsung Newsroom emphasizes the company’s dedication to privacy at a pixel level with this new feature.

Galaxy Buds4: Design and Connectivity Refinements

Alongside the S26 series, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Buds4. Burton was impressed by the new design, noting the “brushed metal” finish as a distinctly Galaxy aesthetic. He also highlighted the compact design and strong Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) as key benefits for travelers. Improvements to the woofer are expected to deliver enhanced bass performance, a popular feature for audio enthusiasts. The Buds4 series also benefits from seamless connectivity with other Samsung devices, a hallmark of the Galaxy ecosystem. TechAeris reports the Buds4 series is available for preorder at multiple retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung.com.

What Comes Next: Availability and User Experience

The Galaxy S26 series, including the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, will be available starting March 11th. For those considering an upgrade, Burton suggests that the S26 series is particularly compelling for users who haven’t upgraded their devices in a while, offering a significant leap in features and performance. The real test, however, will be in long-term user experience. Initial impressions are positive, but the true value of features like Horizon Lock and Privacy Display will become apparent with extended use. The success of the S26 series will depend on how well these features integrate into daily life and address genuine user needs.
