Honor Magic V6: Thinnest Foldable Phone with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Honor Magic V6: Thinnest Foldable Phone with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

March 1, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Honor has unveiled the Magic V6, a new foldable smartphone aiming to redefine the category with a focus on durability and a remarkably slim profile. The device, launched at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, boasts a thickness of just 8.75mm – making it one of the slimmest foldables currently available. Beyond its form factor, the Magic V6 incorporates significant hardware upgrades, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a substantial 6,660mAh battery.

Durability Redefined: IP68 and IP69 Protection

A key differentiator for the Magic V6 is its ingress protection rating. It’s the first foldable smartphone to achieve both IP68 and IP69 certifications. GSM Arena reports that IP68 provides resistance against dust and immersion in water, while IP69 goes further, protecting against high-pressure, close-range water jets. This enhanced durability addresses a common concern among foldable phone users – their susceptibility to damage from environmental factors. Honor has also engineered a new “Super Steel Hinge” designed for longevity, tested to withstand up to 500,000 folds.

Inside the Fold: Specifications and Performance

The Honor Magic V6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. This combination promises flagship-level performance for demanding tasks and applications. The device features a 7.95-inch inner display utilizing an LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,172 x 2,352 pixels. The display’s refresh rate is adaptive, ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, optimizing for both smooth visuals and power efficiency. Peak brightness reaches an impressive 5,000 nits, and Honor claims a reduced crease depth and an anti-reflective layer for improved viewing. A 6.52-inch cover screen also supports a variable refresh rate (1Hz-120Hz) and FHD+ resolution, with a peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits. Both screens support stylus input and feature 20-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Camera System and Imaging Capabilities

The Magic V6 incorporates a triple-camera system on the rear. The setup includes a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Gizmochina details that this configuration aims to deliver versatile photography options, from detailed landscapes to zoomed-in portraits. The camera system is expected to benefit from Honor’s image processing algorithms, enhancing image quality and dynamic range.

Software and User Experience

The Honor Magic V6 runs MagicOS 10, based on Android 16. Honor is committing to seven major Android upgrades, ensuring long-term software support for the device. This commitment is crucial for maintaining security and accessing new features over the phone’s lifespan. The software experience is likely to include features tailored to the foldable form factor, such as optimized multitasking and app compatibility.

Battery Life and Charging

Powering the Magic V6 is a substantial 6,660mAh silicon-carbon battery. This large capacity, combined with the efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and adaptive display technology, should provide all-day battery life for most users. The device supports 80W wired charging, 66W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging, offering flexible charging options. The silicon-carbon battery technology is designed to improve energy density and charging speed compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Weight and Dimensions

The Magic V6’s slim design comes with a weight of 219 grams for the white variant. Other color options – Black, Gold, and Red – weigh slightly more at 9.0mm thickness. The device’s dimensions are 8.75mm (White) or 9.0mm (other colors) when folded, and just 4mm when fully opened, highlighting its portability and compact form factor.

What Comes Next for Foldable Technology?

The Honor Magic V6’s launch signals a continued push towards mainstream adoption of foldable smartphones. The focus on durability, with the IP68 and IP69 ratings, addresses a key barrier to entry for many consumers. Further refinement of hinge technology, as demonstrated by Honor’s Super Steel Hinge, will be crucial for improving the long-term reliability of these devices. Competition in the foldable market is intensifying, with Samsung also releasing increasingly slim and durable models. Android Central notes that Samsung briefly held the title of slimmest foldable, but Honor has now reclaimed that position. The ongoing innovation in materials, display technology, and software optimization will ultimately determine the future of foldable smartphones.
