HONOR MagicPad 4 Review: A Stunning Android Tablet That Might Replace Your Laptop

HONOR MagicPad 4 Review: A Stunning Android Tablet That Might Replace Your Laptop

March 1, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

I’ve been to a lot of product launches over the years and I’ll be honest, when a tablet gets announced, it doesn’t always get me that excited. But HONOR showed up to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week with the MagicPad 4, and after carrying this thing across two continents over the past few weeks, I have some thoughts. And yeah, they’re mostly great ones.

I brought the MagicPad 4 with me to Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco, and then straight onto a flight to Barcelona for MWC. That’s not a light travel schedule, and it’s exactly the kind of real-world stress test that tells you more about a device than any spec sheet ever could. Most tablets I travel with end up stuffed in my bag after day one, pulled out only when I want to watch something on the plane. The MagicPad 4 didn’t get that treatment. I was actually using it for work, for content, for pretty much everything.

A Tablet That Challenges the Laptop?

HONOR packed this thing with flagship specs across the board, from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 under the hood to an OLED display that genuinely had me doing double-takes. And at just 4.8mm thin with bezels that are almost comically slim, it’s one of the most impressive-looking tablets I’ve held in a while. But looks and specs only get you so far. The question is whether the MagicPad 4 actually delivers in day-to-day use, and whether it’s worth your money if you happen to live somewhere HONOR actually sells it.

Build and Design: A Premium Feel

Let’s face it, HONOR has never really had an issue with build quality. They’ve always built really solid devices that feel great in the hand, even with the MagicPad 4. The incredibly thin profile – just 4.8mm – and super-slim bezels (around 4mm, though I haven’t measured them precisely) contribute to a premium feel. It’s a design that immediately feels more refined than many other Android tablets on the market.

Despite its thinness, the MagicPad 4 feels surprisingly sturdy. HONOR similarly sent over their keyboard case, which I’ve been using for most of my testing. While the keyboard adds some bulk, it transforms the tablet into a surprisingly capable laptop replacement. The camera bump is present, despite the modest 13MP camera, but it’s not overly pronounced and doesn’t cause significant wobble on a flat surface.

Audio Performance: Beyond Expectations

The inclusion of eight speakers on the MagicPad 4 is a standout feature. HONOR calls it HONOR Spatial Audio, and while that’s marketing speak, the audio quality is genuinely impressive. I’ve used it to watch Netflix, YouTube, and even NBA games on Amazon Prime, and the experience is bar-none. The soundstage is wide, the bass is punchy, and the clarity is excellent. It’s a significant step up from the speakers found on most tablets.

Display Quality: A Visual Treat

The display on the HONOR MagicPad 4 is simply incredible. It’s a 12.3-inch OLED panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant colors, deep blacks, and incredibly smooth motion. HONOR has gone above and beyond to make this a comfortable display to look at for extended periods. It’s TÜV Rheinland Flicker-free certified and TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certified, which helps reduce eye strain. The 5,280Hz PWM dimming is also a welcome addition, minimizing flicker for sensitive viewers.

The high PWM dimming is particularly noteworthy. PWM, or Pulse Width Modulation, controls screen brightness by rapidly cycling power on and off. This can cause invisible flicker, leading to eye strain for some users. HONOR’s high PWM rate aims to mitigate this issue, making the display more comfortable for prolonged use.

Performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Delivers

The HONOR MagicPad 4 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a powerful processor that handles everything I threw at it with ease. I tested the 12GB/256GB configuration. Everything feels fast and responsive, whether I’m jumping between apps, editing documents, or playing graphically demanding games. There’s no lag or stuttering, and the tablet doesn’t seem to overheat even under heavy load.

Gaming has been particularly impressive. I tested several demanding titles, and the MagicPad 4 maintained smooth frame rates without any noticeable thermal throttling. The larger display also enhances the gaming experience, making it more immersive.

Interestingly, HONOR actively blocks benchmark apps, preventing me from providing traditional benchmark scores. While frustrating, real-world performance has been excellent, which is ultimately more significant.

Software: PC Mode and Enhanced Productivity

I haven’t always been a fan of HONOR’s software, but the experience on the MagicPad 4 is a significant improvement. The standout feature is the PC Mode, which activates when you attach the keyboard. This transforms the tablet’s interface into a more desktop-like experience, with free-floating windows and a taskbar. It also includes PC File Management, making it easier to organize and access files.

This PC Mode is what truly makes the MagicPad 4 a potential laptop replacement. I used it extensively during my trip to Samsung Galaxy Unpacked and MWC, and it handled the vast majority of my work tasks with ease. While it can’t completely replace my laptop, it comes remarkably close.

Is the HONOR MagicPad 4 Right for You?

The HONOR MagicPad 4 is one of the best Android tablets I’ve used in a long time, and it might be the best one available that isn’t made by Samsung or Apple. It offers a stunning display, powerful performance, excellent audio, and a surprisingly capable software experience. The combination of these features makes it a compelling alternative to traditional laptops, especially for users who prioritize portability and media consumption.

However, there’s a significant caveat: HONOR doesn’t sell its devices in the US, and it’s unlikely they will anytime soon. But for users in Europe and Asia, the MagicPad 4 is definitely worth considering. It’s thin, fast, sounds incredible, and is one of the few Android tablets I’ve found myself reaching for every single day. If you’re in the market for a flagship Android tablet and don’t want to spend iPad Pro money, the MagicPad 4 deserves a spot on your shortlist. You can find more information about the device on Ubergizmo and Ungeek.

The MagicPad 4 is slated for general availability on April 1, 2026, with a “MagicPad 4 for £1” competition in select markets, as reported by Ubergizmo. Early bird vouchers will be redeemable shortly after its formal debut at MWC Barcelona.
