HONOR MagicPad 4, V6 & Robot Phone: MWC 2024 Announcements
HONOR unveiled a surprisingly broad range of novel devices at Mobile World Congress this year, extending well beyond smartphones, and tablets. The company showcased the MagicPad 4, the Magic V6 foldable, a “Robot Phone,” and even a fully functional Humanoid Robot, signaling a significant expansion of its technological ambitions. While the tablets and foldables represent incremental but notable improvements, it’s the foray into robotics that truly sets HONOR apart.
MagicPad 4: A Tablet Aiming for iPad Territory
The MagicPad 4 is HONOR’s latest flagship tablet, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Android Headlines reports the tablet boasts a vibrant 12.3-inch 165Hz OLED display, up to 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, all fueled by a substantial 10,100mAh silicon-carbon battery. Though, the most striking feature is its incredibly thin profile – just 4.8mm, undercutting even the latest iPad Pro models. This thinness, combined with the 12.3-inch screen size, aims to address a common complaint about large-screen tablets: unwieldiness.

HONOR Magic V6: Pushing the Boundaries of Foldable Design
The HONOR Magic V6, also unveiled at MWC, continues the company’s pursuit of increasingly refined foldable designs. Mashable highlights the V6’s remarkable thinness – 8.75mm when closed – making it slimmer than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9mm). This achievement is color-dependent; the white model achieves the 8.75mm thickness, while black, gold, and red versions measure 9mm. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and features a 6,600mAh battery.
The Magic V6 boasts a 7.95-inch inner display and a 6.52-inch outer display, both with refresh rates up to 120Hz. HONOR has also focused on improving the crease on the folding display, reducing its depth by 44% for a more seamless viewing experience.
Bridging Ecosystems: HONOR’s Mac Interoperability
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the Magic V6, and the broader HONOR ecosystem, is the emphasis on interoperability with Apple’s macOS. HONOR is implementing AirDrop support and enabling the MagicPad 4 to function as an external display for Macs, mirroring the functionality of an iPad. This cross-platform approach, while unusual, reflects HONOR’s strategy to appeal to users who operate within both Android and Apple ecosystems. The company believes this will attract users who aren’t fully committed to a single platform.
Beyond Smartphones and Tablets: HONOR Enters Robotics
HONOR’s ambitions extend far beyond traditional mobile devices. The company unveiled its first Humanoid Robot at MWC, signaling a strategic shift towards robotics and AI-powered automation. JMComms reports that HONOR envisions these robots fulfilling roles in shopping assistance, workplace inspections, and, crucially, providing supportive companionship. The company’s “Robot Phone,” teased earlier, features a gimbal-mounted 200-megapixel camera controlled by AI, demonstrating a commitment to innovative imaging technology.
HONOR frames this expansion as an extension of its “AI-powered future” (AHI) strategy, integrating its mobile expertise into physical experiences. The company believes that the Robot Phone, Magic V6, MagicPad 4, and MagicBook Pro 14 collectively demonstrate this vision.
Availability and Pricing
The HONOR MagicPad 4 is available for pre-order today, with shipping commencing on March 3, and will start at £599.99. However, the HONOR Magic V6 won’t be available until the second half of the year, and pricing details have not yet been announced. The availability of the Humanoid Robot and Robot Phone remains uncertain, with HONOR characterizing them as proof-of-concept devices showcasing future technologies.
The launch of these devices, particularly the foray into robotics, positions HONOR as a company willing to experiment and push boundaries. While the success of these ventures remains to be seen, HONOR’s MWC announcements demonstrate a clear ambition to become a major player in the evolving landscape of consumer technology.
