Jay Kay’s Unique Green LaFerrari Heads to Auction – RM Sotheby’s Monaco 2026

Jay Kay’s Unique Green LaFerrari Heads to Auction – RM Sotheby’s Monaco 2026

March 19, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

The only LaFerrari finished in Signal Green, originally configured by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, is heading to auction with RM Sotheby’s in Monaco this April. This exceptionally rare hybrid hypercar combines a striking, custom color scheme with a documented history of celebrity ownership and meticulous maintenance, positioning it as a potentially record-breaking sale.

This isn’t simply a rare Ferrari LaFerrari – a model already limited to 499 units – but a singular piece with a bold aesthetic, a pop-culture pedigree, and a comprehensive service record. The car’s vibrant “Signal Green” paint, a bespoke color validated by Ferrari through its “extra-campionario” program, makes it the only LaFerrari to depart the factory in this shade. As Jay Kay explained, according to ItalPassion, he wanted to give his car a “unique personality.”

A Unique Specification and Provenance

Launched in 2013, the Ferrari LaFerrari marked Maranello’s entry into the hybrid hypercar arena. It combines a 6.3-liter V12 engine with the HY-KERS electric system, derived from Formula 1 technology, producing a combined output of 963 horsepower. This allows for a 0-60 mph acceleration time of under 2.5 seconds and a top speed exceeding 220 mph. Each of the 499 coupés produced was carefully allocated to Ferrari’s most loyal clients, but this particular example stands apart.

While most customers opted for traditional colors like red, black, or yellow, Jay Kay requested the special “Signal Green” finish. Further enhancing the exterior are exposed carbon fiber roof, Giallo Modena brake calipers, and wheels specified through Ferrari’s Tailor Made program. The interior features a striking combination of black and green leather, with contrasting green stitching on the seats and steering wheel. A personalized “Jamiroquai” logo is even etched onto the base of the steering wheel, and matching green luggage was included. This attention to detail reflects a commitment to creating a truly bespoke vehicle, in keeping with Kay’s famously eclectic automotive collection, which previously included a violet Lamborghini Diablo.

From Goodwood to the Museo Enzo Ferrari

Delivered on June 24, 2014, to Dick Lovett Sporting Ltd in the UK, the LaFerrari was quickly put to use. Just days later, Jay Kay drove the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, tackling the famous hillclimb course. He owned the car until April 2019, accumulating approximately 3,000 kilometers on the odometer. The car remained in the UK, passing through one subsequent owner before relocating to Monaco around 2023.

Beyond its celebrity ownership, this LaFerrari has also earned recognition as a significant automotive artifact. It was displayed twice at the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena, Italy, first in 2017 and again in early 2026, as part of an exhibition showcasing cars owned by public figures. This inclusion underscores its cultural significance and collectible value.

Meticulous Maintenance and Hybrid System Assurance

Unlike some hypercars that remain largely unused, this LaFerrari has been driven and carefully maintained. The odometer currently reads 12,042 kilometers. Crucially, the car benefits from a complete service history within the official Ferrari network. Recognizing the specific needs of a hybrid hypercar, the high-voltage battery was replaced in January 2023, and a comprehensive hybrid system check was completed in February 2026, along with a full service. This proactive maintenance provides reassurance to potential buyers regarding the longevity and reliability of the complex hybrid powertrain.

Auction Details and Market Expectations

RM Sotheby’s will offer this unique LaFerrari at its Monaco sale on April 25, 2026. The estimated price range is between €4 million and €4.5 million (approximately $4.6 million to $5 million USD), significantly higher than the typical value of “standard” LaFerraris, which currently trade around €3 million. Jay Kay originally purchased the car for approximately £1.1 million (around €1.3 million at the time), demonstrating the substantial appreciation in value driven by its unique specification and provenance. As RM Sotheby’s notes, the car’s condition and documented history contribute to its exceptional market appeal.

The auction will be closely watched by collectors and enthusiasts alike. The combination of a rare and visually striking car, a well-documented history, and a proactive maintenance schedule positions this LaFerrari as a highly desirable investment. The final sale price will likely serve as a benchmark for other unique and historically significant hypercars.

What’s Next for the LaFerrari Market?

Beyond this specific auction, the broader market for limited-edition Ferraris remains strong. The increasing demand for collectible cars, coupled with the growing interest in hybrid technology, suggests that well-maintained and uniquely specified examples like this LaFerrari will continue to appreciate in value. Potential buyers should prioritize thorough pre-purchase inspections, focusing on the condition of the hybrid system and the completeness of the service records. The long-term reliability of the high-voltage battery will be a key consideration, and prospective owners should factor in the cost of potential future replacements or repairs.
