Motorola Razr Fold & Edge 70 Fusion: MWC 2024 Launch Details

March 3, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Motorola has officially unveiled its first book-style foldable smartphone, the Razr Fold, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, alongside the new Motorola Edge 70 Fusion and a pair of new earbuds, the Moto Buds 2 and Moto Buds 2 Plus. The Razr Fold, initially teased at CES earlier this year, represents Motorola’s entry into a competitive foldable market currently dominated by Samsung, and Google.

The Razr Fold distinguishes itself with a focus on a larger display area than its rivals. When unfolded, the device boasts an 8.1-inch 2K LTPO display, exceeding the screen size of both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The external display measures 6.6 inches, providing functionality when the device is closed. This larger canvas is designed to enhance multitasking and content consumption, and is compatible with the moto pen ultra stylus for note-taking and navigation.

Under the Hood: Power and Performance

Powering the Razr Fold is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This combination positions the Razr Fold firmly in the flagship category, capable of handling demanding applications and Motorola’s “moto ai” features. A substantial 6000mAh silicon-carbon battery fuels the device, promising extended usage. Motorola claims the battery can gain 12 hours of life from a 12-minute charge, a claim that builds on the impressive battery performance of last year’s Motorola Razr Ultra. The Razr Fold supports 80W TurboPower charging for rapid replenishment.

Camera Capabilities

Motorola has equipped the Razr Fold with a triple-camera system. The setup includes a 50MP main camera utilizing a Sony LYTIA™ 710 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera with macro capabilities. For selfies, the device features a 20MP front-facing camera on the exterior and a 32MP camera on the inner display.

Design and Durability

The Razr Fold measures 4.6mm thick when open and 9.9mm when closed, weighing 243 grams. It’s available in Lily White and Blackened Blue color options. The Blackened Blue model features a textured rubber-like back for improved grip, while the Lily White version has a smooth, satin finish. Motorola has prioritized durability, covering the front screen with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 and providing IP48 and IP49 ratings for resistance to debris and water. This exceeds the IP48 rating of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Beyond the Fold: Edge 70 Fusion and Moto Buds

Alongside the Razr Fold, Motorola unveiled the Edge 70 Fusion, emphasizing a blend of elegance, comfort, and durability. The Edge 70 Fusion boasts an IP69 and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, along with MIL-STD-810H certification for ruggedness. It features a 6.8-inch Extreme 1.5K Super HD AMOLED display and is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Mobile platform, with a 5200mAh battery supporting 68W Turbo charging. The phone’s camera system includes a 50MP Sony LYTIA™ 710 main sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide + Macro camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.

Motorola also introduced two new earbud models: the Moto Buds 2 and Moto Buds 2 Plus. The Moto Buds 2 are aimed at a more budget-conscious market, offering Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) up to 55dB and up to 11 hours of playback on a single charge, with a total of 48 hours with the charging case. They utilize dual 11mm Dynamic Drivers and 6mm Micro Planar magnetic drivers for sound. The Moto Buds 2 Plus build on this foundation with “Sound by Bose technology” for enhanced audio quality, improved ANC utilizing six microphones, and a feature called Audio Share, allowing two pairs of earbuds to connect to the same device. The Moto Buds 2 Plus offer up to 9 hours of playback and 40 hours with the charging case.

Availability and Future Outlook

While a specific launch date and pricing for the Razr Fold haven’t been confirmed for all regions, Motorola Australia has indicated that local availability details will be announced soon. The Razr Fold’s larger display and powerful specifications position it as a strong contender in the growing foldable smartphone market. The Edge 70 Fusion and Moto Buds 2 series further expand Motorola’s product portfolio, offering consumers a range of options across different price points.

The success of the Razr Fold will likely depend on Motorola’s ability to deliver on its promises of durability and software optimization. The foldable market is still relatively new, and consumers are increasingly focused on long-term reliability. Further testing and user feedback will be crucial in determining the Razr Fold’s position within the competitive landscape. PCMag’s hands-on review highlights the device’s sleek design and comparable weight to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, but also notes the need for further evaluation of its real-world performance.

Motorola’s commitment to innovation in the foldable space, as evidenced by the Razr Fold, suggests a continued focus on pushing the boundaries of smartphone design and functionality. Mashable’s coverage details the device’s key specifications and its debut at Mobile World Congress 2026. CNET’s early look emphasizes the phone’s sleek frame and impressive 6,000mAh battery capacity.
