Motorola Razr Fold: Specs, Battery, Durability & First Look

Motorola Razr Fold: Specs, Battery, Durability & First Look

March 2, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Motorola is steadily revealing details about its forthcoming Razr Fold, focusing on aspects like battery capacity, physical dimensions, and durability. Having gotten an early hands-on look at the device at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Razr Fold is shaping up as a compelling competitor in the evolving foldable phone market, aiming to balance sleek design with substantial power. The device is slated for a North American debut this summer.

Display and Form Factor: A Familiar Yet Refined Approach

The Razr Fold will feature a 6.6-inch external display and an 8.1-inch internal screen, positioning it as slightly larger than both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. When unfolded, the Razr Fold measures 4.6mm in thickness, and 9.9mm when closed, with a weight of 243 grams. Initial impressions suggest a sleekness comparable to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The external display appears to be a practical size for common tasks like texting and scrolling, while the internal display supports multitasking with up to three apps simultaneously. The size increase over competing foldables is incremental, aiming for a comfortable balance between screen real estate and portability.

Power and Performance: A Focus on Endurance

Perhaps the most notable aspect of the Razr Fold is its substantial 6,000-mAh battery. This capacity significantly exceeds the 4,400-mAh battery found in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, suggesting a potential advantage in battery life. Motorola is as well incorporating fast charging capabilities, supporting 80-watt wired charging and 50-watt wireless charging. Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, designed to enhance both performance and efficiency. This processor is also intended to support the device’s AI features, though specific applications remain to be detailed.

Camera Capabilities: A Triple-Lens System

The Razr Fold boasts a triple 50-megapixel camera system, promising high-resolution photography. Complementing Here’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the cover display and a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the internal screen. Early reports suggest the camera system could be among the best available on any foldable device, though comprehensive testing will be needed to confirm this claim.

Durability and Design: Balancing Protection and Aesthetics

Motorola is emphasizing the Razr Fold’s durability, with IP48 and IP49 ratings. These ratings indicate the device can withstand immersion in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes and can handle high-pressure water jets. However, unlike the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the Razr Fold lacks dust resistance. A key innovation is the use of Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover, a first for any smartphone, intended to provide enhanced scratch and impact resistance. The phone will be available in two color options: Pantone Blackened Blue, featuring a textured back, and Pantone Lily White, with a smoother, matte finish. Both options utilize vegan leather for the back panel, aiming for a premium feel and reduced fingerprint visibility.

Software and Support: A Blend of Ecosystems

Hands-on reports indicate the Razr Fold’s software experience falls somewhere between Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s One UI. 9to5Google describes the software as a hybrid approach, suggesting Motorola is attempting to leverage the strengths of both Android ecosystems. Motorola is committing to seven years of software and security updates, aligning with the extended support offered by other major Android manufacturers.

The Role of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in Foldable Performance

The choice of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor is significant. Qualcomm’s latest generation of chips are designed not only for raw processing power but also for improved power efficiency and dedicated AI processing capabilities. In a foldable device, where managing battery life and thermal performance are critical, these optimizations are particularly significant. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s integrated AI engine will likely play a role in features like camera scene optimization, voice assistant performance, and potentially even adaptive battery management.

Remaining Questions and What to Expect

Despite the growing list of revealed specifications, two crucial details remain unknown: pricing and precise availability. Motorola has indicated that this information will be released closer to the summer launch window. The price point will be a key factor in determining the Razr Fold’s competitiveness, particularly given the established presence of Samsung and Google in the foldable market.

The Razr Fold represents Motorola’s latest attempt to carve out a space in the premium foldable phone segment. By focusing on a large battery, a sleek design, and a durable build, Motorola is aiming to address some of the key concerns potential buyers have about foldable devices. The coming months will reveal whether these efforts translate into a successful product that can challenge the dominance of Samsung and Google.
