Vivo X300 Ultra: 200MP Camera, 17x Zoom & Global Release Confirmed

Vivo X300 Ultra: 200MP Camera, 17x Zoom & Global Release Confirmed

March 2, 2026 Sarah Wu - Tech Editor Tech and Science

Vivo unveiled its upcoming flagship, the X300 Ultra, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this week, signaling a strong push into professional-grade mobile photography, and videography. The device, showcased on March 2, 2026, immediately draws attention with its unique design and, crucially, a screw-on telephoto lens – a feature Vivo intends to bring to global markets, unlike last year’s X200 Ultra.

A New Approach to Mobile Telephotography

The centerpiece of the X300 Ultra is the second-generation 400mm Equivalent vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2. This innovative accessory physically screws onto the phone, providing a remarkable 17x optical zoom. Vivo claims this zoom capability maintains sufficient image quality even at a 30x digital crop, extending to a potential 1600mm equivalent. This positions the X300 Ultra as a potential tool for content creators seeking extended reach without compromising image fidelity. The company is also offering a dedicated “Camera Cage” accessory, complete with a grip, lighting, and a multi-stage fan for cooling during extended recording sessions, further emphasizing its focus on professional use cases.

This isn’t simply about magnification. Vivo emphasizes systemic improvements across magnification, optical performance, stabilization, and structural design. Co-engineered with ZEISS, the lens is designed to meet APO imaging standards and supports a full 200MP optical output, promising pristine image quality. Cutting-edge gimbal-grade OIS and motion-tracking focus technology are also incorporated to deliver a stable and precise telephoto experience. As noted in a press release, this is a deliberate move to address the evolving needs of mobile imaging, where telephoto extenders are becoming increasingly important.

Imaging Hardware and Stabilization

Beyond the telephoto extender, the X300 Ultra boasts impressive core camera specifications. The main camera utilizes a 200MP Sony LYT-901 sensor (1/1.12″ size, 35mm equivalent focal length). A second 200MP sensor, a Samsung HPB, powers an 85mm periskop telephoto lens. Completing the setup is a 50MP ultra-wide lens (Sony LYT-828) and a multispectral sensor. Vivo has also implemented gimbal-grade OIS with automatic focus tracking, aiming to provide stable and sharp images even at high zoom levels. A 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus handles selfies.

The camera module itself remains visually prominent on the rear of the device. The inclusion of a dedicated multispectral sensor suggests potential enhancements in color accuracy and scene analysis, though specific details regarding its function remain unconfirmed. The gimbal OIS system is a key component, addressing a common challenge with high-magnification photography – camera shake.

Beyond the Camera: Specifications and Availability

While Vivo focused heavily on the camera system at MWC, details regarding other specifications are still emerging. Reports suggest the phone features a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO display. Notably, the physical action button previously found on the side of the device has been removed. Powering the X300 Ultra is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The phone is anticipated to house a 7000 mAh battery, supporting 100W wired charging and 40W wireless charging.

The decision to launch the X300 Ultra globally marks a shift from last year’s X200 Ultra, which was not widely available outside of China. Gadgets360 reports that Vivo confirmed its global launch plans at MWC. However, precise pricing and availability dates for European markets remain unknown.

What Comes Next

The X300 Ultra’s debut at MWC is just the first step. The device will need to undergo thorough testing and review by independent publications and photographers to validate Vivo’s claims regarding image quality and stabilization. The performance of the 400mm telephoto extender, particularly at its maximum digital zoom, will be a critical area of scrutiny. The availability of the Camera Cage accessory and its impact on usability will also be important factors. Finally, the phone’s overall performance, battery life, and software experience will need to be assessed to determine its competitiveness in the premium smartphone market. The X300 Ultra represents a bold attempt to redefine mobile photography, and its success will depend on delivering on its ambitious promises.
