F1 2026: Driver Penalty Points Ahead of Melbourne – Full List

F1 2026: Driver Penalty Points Ahead of Melbourne – Full List

March 5, 2026 Carlos Moreno - Sports Editor Sports

The 2026 Formula 1 season is fast approaching, bringing with it a reset of technical regulations and a fresh start for many teams. Still, several drivers will enter the Australian Grand Prix carrying the weight of Super Licence penalty points, a system where points accumulate over a 12-month period, potentially leading to a one-race ban for those reaching 12 points.

Adding a layer of complexity to the situation is the case of Valtteri Bottas, now racing for Cadillac. The Finn was initially handed a five-place grid penalty in his final race as a Kick Sauber driver at the conclude of 2024. However, a recent clarification of the sporting regulations confirms that Bottas will not serve that penalty at the Australian Grand Prix.

According to article B2.5.4 of the latest sporting regulations, drivers with 15 or fewer unserved grid penalties accumulated within the previous 12 months will have those penalties factored into their qualifying position. Because Bottas’ penalty was issued before the 12-month window, it will not be applied in Melbourne. This is a significant development, offering Bottas a clean slate as he begins his new chapter with Cadillac.

Let’s take a look at the current penalty point standings for each driver ahead of the Melbourne race:
